Swine flu outbreak sees call rate rocket at gems
Date of article: 27-Jan-11
The first week of the year has brought a surge of enquiries for leading cleaning product supplier, Sheffield’s Gems Hygiene, following the recent outbreak of swine flu.
A dramatic increase in cases of the H1N1 virus during the Christmas break has prompted businesses from across the UK to telephone Gems seeking effective antibacterial products.
As the nation returns to work and school, worried organisations are contacting Gems to find effective ways to improve workplace hygiene and minimise the risk of spreading swine flu among employees and customers.
Gems is advising organisations to invest in two products to help combat the spread of germs – a cleaner that is proven to be effective against swine flu on all washable surfaces and an alcohol hand gel.
Bactericidal cleaner, Sprint, has passed independent laboratory tests to confirm it is effective against the H1N1 influenza strain. When used neat, with a contact time of 30 minutes, the cleaner is proven to kill 99.99% of the swine flu virus, whilst its non-corrosive nature and low hazard rating make it safe to use in public areas. It is also proven to kill HIV, Hepatitis C, Clostridium Difficile, MRSA and common food poisoning bacteria, including Salmonella Typhimurium, Listeria Monocytogenes and Escherichia Coli.
Alcohol hand gel, Sani Hands, is also effective against the avian and swine flu viruses and kills 99.999% of E-Coli and MRSA. The product is available in pocket or portable 100ml spray bottles, as well as the traditional 450ml and one litre versions.
Chris Hague, Gems’ business support manager, said: “Businesses are understandably worried about the impact swine flu has on employees’ health and general productivity, as experts predict the current outbreak is yet to peak. We are pleased to see so many organisations taking proactive steps to improve workplace hygiene and our specialist sales advisers are helping as many callers as they can by recommending the best products and highlighting simple preventative measures.”
