Emergency card launched for carers
Date of article: 03-Mar-11
Article By: Bridgend County Borough Council
Carers do a fantastic job in Bridgend County Borough – but if they get ill or are caught up in an emergency, what happens to the people they look after?
Bridgend County Borough Council and the Bridgend Carers Centre have teamed up to launch a new emergency service that can help in difficult situations.
Carers can now register for a special card that they can carry inside their wallet, purse or pocket.
The card states that they are a carer and that someone depends upon them, and includes a special identity number and contact details for the Bridgend Carers Centre.
When someone calls the centre and provides the card’s identity number, the centre can check who the card holder’s emergency contacts are. If they can not help, the centre will organise suitable care using a mobile response team.
The card does not feature any personal information and is free to all carers in Bridgend County Borough.
