NHS Trust recruiting new volunteers to celebrate National Volunteer Week

A mental health Trust in Norfolk and Suffolk is on the look out for new volunteers as it celebrates National Volunteer Week.

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is raising awareness of its very successful volunteer scheme, to attract more people to get involved. Volunteers enhance the services provided by the Trust and already attract a very wide range of people.

There is a wide variety of volunteering opportunities at the Trust from doing hair and painting nails, to running numeracy and literary sessions. Other opportunities include reading newspapers and books to service users, running musical activities or even providing play for siblings or young people in waiting rooms.

Every volunteer placement is suited to an individual’s interests and key skills to maximise the experience for both the volunteer and the Trust’s service users.

Voluntary services manager Pene Kenrick-Ward is starting the recruitment drive at an event in Castle Mall, Norwich today [31 May] and in Chapelfield Shopping Centre, Norwich on Wednesday 6 June. She will be answering questions people may have about volunteering and spreading the message about the benefits of giving time to others.

Pene said “The only requirement of volunteering with our Trust is people who are over the age of 18 and who are able to provide a commitment of time, enthusiasm and energy. Our volunteers do a wonderful job; they are dedicated to helping out with anything from meal times on wards to taking a group of older people swimming.”
