We found Helping Hands to help Dad after a serious fall and 4 months in hospital. A fiercely independent 91-year-old, he resisted the notion of strangers in his house, but could no longer look after himself or his cat and needed help with personal and domestic care.
He came to look forward to the daily visits. The ‘ladies’ all different in personality and nature all provided the same degree of care, support and kindness. There was lots of joy, laughter and singing, just the tonic Dad needed during his long days. We were always told of any problems which were swiftly solved or dealt with and there were times when the carers went over and above their duties to help with an increasingly demanding client as Dad developed dementia. He then needed more than 3 daily visits and now has a live-in carer.
He still talks about his ‘Ladies’. They became his family when we were unable to be there and we all felt supported and looked after by the whole team.
A care company who care!

Sheila Cutler, Registered Manager at Helping Hands and Company responded to this review on 23 Feb 2018:

Knowing you have provided the very best care you can which is appreciated by family is good to know. Knowing when to pass clients on to other professionals when they can do what we as an agency can not shows that we care enough to let them go. Thank you for your support as a family.

At first, it was difficult for an independent person such as my mum to accept that they may require domestic help from someone outside of the family but from the first meeting with the manageress, it was clear that this was a common challenge that the Helping Hands staff were used to facing and I was told they would be very sensitive to. From these early days our confidence in their professionalism soon grew. At first, there were single daily visits just to help mum prepare her lunch but by the end, mum was receiving three visits per day including assistance with bathing and personal hygiene. Throughout this period in her life, my mother was treated with dignity and understanding by the Helping Hands staff. The level of help and assistance was balanced against her needs as these changed and all the Helping Hands staff became thought of by the family as friends, rather than just as paid service providers. I cannot recommend this company strongly enough.

We are very conscious of our clients' changing needs and will always adapt to accommodate them.

Helping Hands cared for my mother, who has poor eyesight and dementia over a number of months. This is an excellently managed team of highly efficient and dedicated carers. Continuity was kept by writing up a log book which we could also read. There was a print out each week as to who was coming, and when. Flexibility was also possible for when we were there and able to care for Mum ourselves. Mum was treated with respect and dignity at all times. In addition to the practical necessities, the team provided friendship, taking the trouble to get to know Mum, and always having time for a chat. There was a perfect balance of friendliness and professionalism. Mum felt confident and relaxed with all the carers and looked forward to their visits. I also found watching them at work was so helpful to me, for when I cared for Mum on my own. I also deeply appreciate the support given when we were trying to encourage Mum to take the difficult step of moving to a residential home.

Always good to hear a family comment on the way they see us with their relative.

Thanks to Helping Hands staff's wonderfully caring and supportive service, my very independent-minded mother was able to accept all the help she needed to remain with her little dog in her beloved cottage for as long as possible. I believe Helping Hands' competent and caring introduction to providing the right care for my mother enabled a confident transition to a home when the time was right. I feel forever grateful.

Sheila Cutler, REGISTERED MANAGER at Helping Hands and Company responded to this review on 30 Oct 2017:

We know how hard it is for some to accept help but shortly look forward to our visits. Assisting with transition to further care is a pleasure, knowing we have done our job well.

I cannot thank the manager and her team enough for the top class care that they have given to dad over the last two years. Without them, dad would certainly not have been able to stay at home as long as he did. Management and quality of care is top class and the team very often went above and beyond the call of duty. I found the manager herself very approachable and I had a good relationship with all of dad's carers. Very highly recommended!

Knowing we can make a difference to our clients, supporting them and their families makes our job of caring worthwhile.

A few years ago my uncle became in need of home care, this concerned me as my uncle could be so independent thus making him a little grumpy. I really had no need to worry, the experienced kind staff at helping hands were used to all personalities and a great relationship began.
Over the years the support and care given to my uncle and I must say to me also has been outstanding, with the ladies and the manager always being ready to support.
If ever I have the chance to recommend the company I would 100%.

Thank you for your kind words. It was a pleasure being able to help and support your relative to be able to stay at home for as long as he was able. There was as you know, never a dull moment. I am pleased that you felt supported as well as he was.

The careers at Helping Hands and Company were without exception extremely professional, caring, friendly, supportive and undertook all tasks with a cheerful disposition. The management team were also totally professional and responded to changing circumstances immediately and provided flexibility when necessary. I recommend this company totally as I found them to be absolutely wonderful and helpful when my husband and I were under great stress. The time keeping of the careers was 100 % perfect which considering where we live was extraordinary. The careers tried to brighten a very distressing time for us with their good humour and professional attitude.

Thank you for your review. We pride ourselves in being able to provide not only a high standard of care but professional support for our clients and their families.

Mum's care was excellent. Management very accessible and kept me informed of any concerns and able to rapidly change visits as Mum's circumstances changed. This gave my brother, who lives abroad, and myself, living 150miles away peace of mind. Thank you.

I cannot fault the care and attention provided for my mother by the team at Helping Hands. The manager and her personnel go well beyond the extra mile and really do consistently put the care into homecare. Well done to Helping Hands and many heartfelt thanks.

No question is to big or too small to ask and you are always met with professional and empathic staff.
The Manager strategically leads a team of dedicated support staff in such a reassuring way - it's just magic!

We cannot thank the staff enough for the help, support and encouragement given - Helping Hands should be recognised as the benchmark for how support and care should be given/provide.

The manager and her team of carers always provide professional, considered care to my mother. They are always on time and are always willing to give that little bit extra. That extra could be time to listen, or simply a cup of tea... but without these hard working professional managed carers my mother would be living in a home without her independence, and current quality of life. Helping Hands and in particular, the manager should be recognised for her skills in managing a caring, considerate, and professional care organisation... Thank you!

Helping Hands carers have been very good in helping my elderly aunt who was used to being very independent but couldn't manage everyday activities anymore. They were reliable and never failed to visit her and always let me know if there was a problem.
I would highly recommend them.

It is so nice to hear that our clients and their families think so highly of our services and staff. It is a pleasure to be there when we are needed.

Helping Hands and Company were a wonderful find for my mother. For the last two years of her life they enabled her to remain in her own home as she wished. They have provided practical and emotional support for her, clearly communicating with me when there are problems and recommending changes in support when required. Importantly, my mother enjoyed their visits. I was working abroad during this time but felt fully involved and confident that she was well cared for. I am extremely grateful to the manager and all of the staff of Helping Hands for the care and support they provided, they did everything I hoped for and more.

Sheila Cutler (Helping Hands & Co), Registered Manager at Helping Hands and Company responded to this review on 01 Apr 2016:

It was a pleasure to visit Mrs A many thanks to Phil for you excellent comments

After many years of carers who belonged to large companies it was a relief to find a small local company able to provide excellent home care for my relative during a period of her life that became more and more difficult due to dementia. The great advantage of this company is that the turnover of carers is small which means that the carers are able to learn and understand the needs of clients/service users and trust is built up between them and the client. The management could not be more helpful, willing to accommodate any reasonable request and to answer any concerns expressed by the carers or the client.

Thank you for your review. It was a pleasure being able to help with advice as well and practical help for your relative. To know that we helped in some way to keep her independence to be able to stay in her own home for as long as possible. I wish you both well.

Mum has dementia and thanks to the care given by the carers at Helping Hands we were able to manage her at home longer than we would have been able to without them. She felt comfortable with them and allowed them to do personal care and enjoyed coffee and a chat with them. This gave me a much needed rest and mum company.

So helpful and caring from the first phone call searching for carers that could visit three times a day, to the final hours for Mum in late stage vascular dementia. They were reliable, professional and outstanding in every way. We are so very grateful to a wonderful team.
