Formally known as TLC Homecare, Choices Homecare's motto is 'skilled care your way', which is a philosophy they look to bring to older and vulnerable adults throughout South and West Yorkshire. They are proud to support people to live in their own homes for longer and can provide a full range of homecare services.

Their 'Values' are embedded throughout the Organisation to ensure they reflect their Vision (...to deliver a service to be proud of), and are able to deliver the best quality of care that they can for all of their service users.

They offer a person centred approach to a wide range of care needs (offering support with: personal care, meal preparation, medication assistance, home respite/safety check visits or sitting services whilst family go out (or other), assisting service users to go out into the community, shopping, light domestic help and more). They can also provide support to adults who suffer dementia, or those with learning or other disabilities.

There is a strong focus on quality recruitment and training and Choices are passionate about delivering safe, well planned services; care and support workers promote choice and independence to assist service users in remaining as independent as possible, whatever the situation. Outcome-focused services take account of client preferences and aspirations, with 'Choices' considering themselves as 'working in partnership with their service users' to deliver, quality services to each and every one.

As a general rule we are very happy with the service my uncle receives from HOMECARE. He likes the young ladies coming because he says they know what to do and do it well. He says the men who come are good but they can't get down on the floor and he has to elevate his legs which is difficult for him
because of the spondylitis in his neck.
I think at one point we were having a problem because the evening call was getting too late. He doesn't like unlocking his door late at night and indeed I've told him to keep his door locked as he is vulnerable.
Reply from Elaine Bradley-Smith, Employee Engagement & Communications Officer at Choices Homecare (Barnsley)Thank you for taking the time to review us, we really appreciate your feedback and comments. We are pleased that you are generally very happy with the service received by your uncle but are sorry to hear that he at one point had a few issues with the time of the evening call - please do let us know if he has any issues in the future. Your comment around your uncle finding it difficult to raise his legs because some of the carers can't get down onto the floor has been passed on to our management team for them to take a look at for him and we will try to identify and ask for someone to get in touch soon. In the meantime please don't hesitate to contact the office on the usual local number if your uncle experiences any further issues and we will do our very best to try and help. Thanks again for the feedback received.

All the ladies and men that attend to help my dad shower are lovely and well mannered and enjoy having a 'laugh' with my dad.

The only issue we seem to have is the time that he is sometimes booked in for. I know sometimes it can't be helped when people have phoned in sick but it's not good when he

has to sit in his dressing gown till 10.30/11.00 waiting to have his shower.

I do apologise for my mum ringing up to complain about the times, they seem to forget there must be lots of people to sort.

Reply from Elaine Bradley-Smith, Employee Engagement & Communications Officer at Choices Homecare (Barnsley)Thank you for taking the time to review us, we really appreciate the feedback received (both positive & negative) to assist us in making future improvements to our services. We are so pleased that you find all staff who attend 'lovely & well mannered' but are sorry to hear that you are sometimes less happy with the visit times, your feedback is important to us and will be passed on to our management team, and someone will try to contact you to discuss these with you soon (please do contact us on the usual local number if we're unable to get in touch with you); please be assured that we will do our best to rectify any issues promptly. Thanks again for all of your comments and for your 5* rating.

So far my mum's only needed carers twice a week for showering. The carers have changed from normal routines to accommodate her needs on different days. They always ask is she needs anything else and let me know if there's any change in her condition or needs anything to make her comfortable. One carer
in particular has gone above and beyond to get her doctors appointments when she couldn't get one, made sure she had barrier spray and anything else she needs. I am very grateful to have carers who genuinely care about both me and my mother.
Reply from Elaine Bradley-Smith, Employee Engagement & Communications Officer at Choices Homecare (Barnsley)Thank you for taking the time to submit your review, we are so pleased that you find your Mum's carers accommodating and that you feel that they genuinely care... Your feedback will be passed on to the carers concerned as a thank you for all of their hard work. Thanks again for your kind comments!

The carers that come to me are very understanding of my needs. They make me feel at ease and they treat me with respect and I feel I've still got my dignity. They talk to me the whole time they are here and we sometimes have a little joke and that makes my day. Don't know what I'd do without them.

Excellent service that we've had for something like a year now. Thank you to the manager who set the service up. Lovely, regular and well trained staff, so helpful to both my parents. We really have peace of mind, knowing my parents are so well cared for. Staff were so kind and helpful when my dad was
in hospital looking after my mum. Excellent service, extremely pleased. Thank you so much.

My service continues to be good. I have 2 regular carers who are highly satisfactory. When they are on holiday or days off, known carers are acceptable and efficient. Obviously better as they become familiar with service user needs.

We needed some respite care for only a week whilst the family was on holiday. The care packages were explained in detail, just needed a call in service twice a day. All went well for the week.
A further week from the 27th of October to the 1st of November has been arranged together with a weekly bathing/hair
care call of 45 minutes.
As time goes by we may consider meals to be provided to be accessed due to the capabilities of the client.

We have been using TLC for around a year now and always had very good care for my Father, who is not always the most cooperative of characters to deal with, but all carried out gently and professionally.
Very Many Thanks.

We are very pleased with the care that my mum gets. Everyone is so kind and caring. After a few initial teething problems, everything is great. In fact, my uncle is moving to you on the 9th of June from his existing care provider. Really like the fact I can see the visits on my emails too. The Manager,
Care Coordinator and Assessment and Reviewing Officer have been very efficient with any queries and your carer (think she covers Mum on a regular basis) is always so friendly and caring when I'm over visiting Mum. Many thanks to you all.

  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Home Care Provider is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.627 for Choices Homecare (Barnsley) is calculated as follows: ( (109 Excellents x 5) + (39 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 158 Ratings = 4.627
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

    The 5 points available are broken down as follows: 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.5 Points for the second and third Positive Reviews, 0.25 Points for each of the next two Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3, 2nd = 0.5, 3rd = 0.5, 4th = 0.25, 5th = 0.25, 6th = 0.05, 7th = 0.05, 8th = 0.05, 9th = 0.05, 10th = 0.05, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025)

    The 5 points relating to the number of Positive Reviews for Choices Homecare (Barnsley) is based on 26 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as follows: 3 + 0.5 + 0.5 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 5
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Home Care Provider does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Care Coordinator Barnsley Joined: 2023

I'm Sarah, a care coordinator covering the Cudworth, Town, Darton, Worsbrough, plus any other areas of Barnsley in between.

I never thought of ever getting into care work until the horrible COVID-19 struck, and I couldn't do my previous job. I felt grounded and needed to get out of the house. I then saw a job for home care and thought I'd give that a go! I fell in love with care so much that I gave up my other job and became a team leader, and then, due to hard work, dedication and transferable skills, I became a care coordinator. I joined Choices due to the positive things I had heard and the career progression that is offered. Since starting, I have never looked back and can't wait to see where this journey will take me.

In my spare time, I love spending time with my beautiful little boy and husband.
