Westmorland Homecare is a unique Doctor led community home care service. They are the only service in the area to be run by a doctor team and are proud to be making a positive difference to people's lives every day. They want to provide the best care it is possible to provide and want all their clients to be happy with their support.

Staff help people to stay happy, healthy and active at home by providing a comprehensive range of services. From a couple of hours per week for companionship and shopping to 24-hour personal care at home, they will build a tailor-made care package for each client.

Staff are really passionate about changing the way care is delivered and doing something really special. They are proud to have recruited a wonderful team of caring, compassionate people who do the job because they love helping people in their hearts.

They founded Westmorland Homecare on traditional values and are passionate about providing the highest quality care. Their mission is to change the lives of people in their community, both clients and staff, by creating something really special. Their services extend to across the whole of the South Lakes; Kendal, Windermere, Staveley, Ambleside, Grasmere, Milnthorpe, Grange over Sands and the surrounding rural areas.

As a family, we are delighted with the standard of care and support Dad receives from Westmorland Homecare. The care staff on his team are attentive and treat him with the utmost care and professionalism. His needs which are both physical and emotional are attended to diligently, with carers going above
and beyond on many occasions. They have provided a crucial link with the medical profession, recognising instantly when district nurses are needed. Staff recognise that Dad has a wonderful sense of humour and the daily banter is at times very funny. Any queries we had, the management has been helpful and supportive, what is really lovely is that carers make time to check Mum is okay after each visit, and provide help for her and company that is valued. Having Westmorland Homecare looking after Dad's daily needs has been invaluable to our family. He is being well cared for by your carers allowing the time we have with him to be more relaxed, quality, social experience.

After having good care for over 2 years for a complex client, I was appalled when without notice or warning, we received a letter to say they would no longer be providing care.
We literally had 8 working days to find more care. I asked for an extension but this was turned down. They blamed it on the
lack of staff. They abandoned a very complex, highly vulnerable adult and family completely in a dilemma, with major anxiety stress and upset for their client which triggered immense decline physically and mentally. Plus pressure for myself. This was despite us being told they had a new carer to be introduced.
They were fully engaged with continuing the care package the day before. This unprofessional action is shocking and leaves me to say take care with this organisation, they will abandon at any time with no warning.
The decisions will be made not by the supervisor, admin or carers. We have always been pleased with the service. This is negative but extremely stressful and upsetting.

As am sure you are aware this has been extremely complex, we have been working with you and your family for 2 years, we have tried everything to help and support you and your family.
Due to confidentiality I cannot go into the details, but it has been discussed with a number of health professionals and external advice taken. We do not serve notice without a detailed reason. We have provided you and your family with a huge amount of support and advice and our staff continued to do this right up to the end.
We have a duty to support and protect our staff. The team have done all they can to support you and your family over the two years we have acted with kindness compassion and care. We have answered hundreds of emails and phone calls on an almost weekly basis. As a service, we have a responsibility to ensure we can look after and support everyone we look after. If you would like to speak further about the reasons I am more than happy to discuss.

In my, and my mum’s, experience, the team at Westmorland Homecare are amazing. All of Mum’s carers are kind, thoughtful, respectful and diligent in all they do. They brighten up her day when they visit and we have never felt that she is patronised or treated like an old person (she is in her nineties!).
She is valued and they all respect her desire for independence!
The office staff are equally lovely and understanding. Nothing is ever too much trouble.
I would recommend them to anyone who needs help or care in their own home.

I just wanted to express my gratitude and thanks for the whole team at Westmorland Homecare for the gracious and diligent way in which they cared for my grandma in the last few months of her life. She had always been fiercely independent, but after contracting Covid last year, took a sudden downhill
turn and needed help in all aspects of her care. This frustrated her immensely, but your team of wonderful carers never made her feel like a hindrance. On the few times I was with her when they visited, I witnessed nothing but a polite and friendly attitude. My grandma felt so looked after and looked forward to her visits. Sadly, my grandma passed away last month, but she always spoke highly of your fabulous team, and I'll never be able to thank you enough for making the last few months of her life so comfortable. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Westmorland Homecare to anyone who is looking for a reliable and caring agency to care for their relatives.

My mother was cared for by Westmorland Homecare for the last 18 months of her life - dying aged 94 and a half. She had dementia and many other problems. During the time she was cared for, Westmorland Homecare could not have cared better for her. The carers always went the extra mile - stayed longer
if necessary - and genuinely would do anything - especially as I live 75 miles away. The manager and other office staff too, were exceptional, always keeping me in touch with any matter, and regularly reviewing the situation and the care Mum received. I could not and cannot rate them highly enough - no one could have done more for Mum or loved her more.

The owner and his team have been a godsend to our family. Mum has been unwell for a few months and recently diagnosed with dementia as well. We have the same regular ladies coming to visit mum and they are all wonderful. I can't praise them enough but special thanks to the senior carer who looks after
the other carers in the team as well as mum. I don't know where they find their staff but they are all wonderful people. 5 stars plus plus plus and a big thank you from us all. I would recommend Westmorland Homecare if you are looking for home care in Grange-over-Sands. I also have a friend who gets their Kendal home care from them and she also highly recommends them.

We asked Westmorland Homecare to provide home care to my mother in Kendal approximately 6 months ago. They help Mum with medication and meal preparation. I have to say every member of staff we have met has been wonderful. It's the same regular team of carers and everyone in the office has been so lovely
and helpful too. We live away so it's a huge reassurance. I have always found them to be highly professional and kind. I would highly recommend them.

Needed home help, living on my own after serious illness (Covid-19).
Westmorland Homecare people were unfailingly thoughtful, kind, sensitive, responsive to particular needs or requirements. All work done thoroughly and efficiently - very professional.

From the outset, we found everyone friendly, approachable and caring. The care my dad had was excellent. The ladies cared for my dad with respect and treated him with care. It was peace of mind to know my dad has this care in place. We could always speak/email with any concerns and likewise I was always
updated if anything was concerning them. The back up in my dad's last few months was a godsend. Thank goodness we found such lovely people to care for our dad and grandad.

The staff have been so wonderful with mum. She likes them more than me! The company seems well organised and well run. I have mainly dealt with the manager but all the staff I have spoken to have been great. I know one of our carers used to be a nurse who retired from the NHS and the other has been
working in the industry for 30 years so I feel confident in them. I would highly recommend the company.

My father was recently discharged from hospital after a long, painful, and persistent illness. he struggled at home on his own after discharge. Westmorland Homecare came to his/our rescue. They were very helpful and immediately came to our aid. They have provided an excellent service, providing first-class
care. My Dad feels confident at home and happy. This is all thanks to Westmorland and their first-class care. I don't know what we could have done without them.

Carers were all excellent and have contributed to the fact that I am now able to walk again with sticks. Always cheerful, which relieved the 'boredom' of being bedbound for so long and feeling 'fed up'. Their integrated work with the district nursing team, ie 'bedsores' and the treatment of them was
a useful exercise for all concerned 'especially my bottom'.

My aunt and uncle had excellent care. My aunt sadly passed away, and the team stepped in to give all daycare and some 24-hour care - excellent service from all the team. Great coordination.

I have found Westmorland Homecare to provide an excellent, professional service. I live 335 miles from my mum and using Westmorland Homecare has made my life so much easier. My mum suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and until very recently, she has refused to move into a care home. Westmorland Homecare
has provided flexible care and home help totally tailored to my mum’s needs. I have always been fully informed of any developments with my mum. When mum finally agreed to go into a care home and I was on an extended holiday in Cyprus, Westmorland Homecare safely transported mum from Cumbria down to Devon. I would not hesitate to recommend the service provided by Westmorland Homecare.

Joshua Macaulay

Job Title: Director of Operations Joined: 2017

Dr Macaulay has a background in both health and social care. After growing up in the Lake District he graduated from the University of Liverpool with a degree in Medicine and Surgery and has worked in hospitals across the country. He specialised in Emergency Medicine.. He has worked in homecare for 10 years and previously ran a homecare company in Liverpool before moving back to Kendal. He has also worked in nursing homes including specialised dementia and challenging behaviour care. He holds a level 5 diploma in Leadership as well as undertaking extensive training in Care Management. Dr Macaulay is also a dementia trainer, moving and handling trainer and is a specialist safeguarding lead.

Christopher

Christopher Moss

Job Title: Director Joined: 2017

Dr Moss started his career in engineering before moving to health and social care. He completed his second degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Newcastle before undertaking specialist training in intensive care and anaesthetics. He has a background in business management and personal experience caring for relatives with dementia. He is also an adventure medic and holds an ocean master sailing qualification, mountain medicine diploma and is a qualified skiing instructor.
