Since Cheryl Nixon joined Home Instead in October 2016 as a CAREGiver, her hard work never ceases to amaze us. Her dedication has now led her to be promoted to Deputy Care Manager, a challenging yet rewarding role.
Before her recent promotion Cheryl used to work as Team Leader, which allowed her to grow personally and professionally as she had to organise her time in order to cover both of her positions as a Team Leader in the office and a CAREGiver. She soon learnt how to be more flexible and how to accept if things don’t go to plan, as “everyday things can change and that’s fine” she states.
However, the best thing about her role as a Team Leader was meeting different CAREGivers and new clients in the beginning. Cheryl explains that it is always interesting to make contact with new people, “to put faces to names”. She also believes that being a Team Leader has prepared her for her new role as Deputy Care Manager when it comes to the understanding how the company works. Cheryl is now more aware of the way the business works and of the different roles in the company. This has also helped her to realise how she could fit in and make sure that everything that we do is of highest quality.
As to her new position as Deputy Care Manager, Cheryl is expecting it to be very challenging. “It will stretch me a lot more,” she says. “I hope I will use everything I’ve learnt in management – I have many years of experience behind me. And have been a Care Manager before. I will use all of the skills I have, and I’m looking forward to do it for the company.” She is also looking forward to work more with the CAREGivers and spending more time working for them. She wants to make them even more aware of how hard the Home Instead team works, “to put them in the front and send them to the community”. The aim is to secure a “strong team and make sure they enjoy coming to Home Instead and be proud of what we do here.”
Cheryl believes that the recent “outstanding” inspection at Home Instead was well deserved. “Everyone at Home Instead is really passionate about making a difference to people’s lives.” Apart from the high quality of the service, the people are certainly one of the best things about working here. “It feels like a family,” Cheryl says. “Anitra is very proud of the CAREGivers and the company. I think most people would like their families to be looked after by Home Instead. I know I would.”
It is always greatly pleasing to know that our team not only works as hard as possible to reassure the quality of the care we provide, but also that everyone enjoys being part of this “family”.
