Unit 1, 34 Chatfield Road, Wandsworth, London SW11 3SE
Since its foundation over forty years ago the charity’s mission has been to deliver practical solutions to everyday living for older people and people with disabilities. DLF has been at the vanguard of adopting new technology to manage its information. Its customers are now primarily individuals rather than professionals, although the latter remain key both as experts and a way of reaching the wider public. The charity began its life in 1969 the year before the 1970 Morris Act, the Magna Carta for disabled people was passed. The charity now based in Hammersmith hosts an Equipment Demonstration Centre open to all; it has recently launched an equipment loan scheme, a ‘library’ offering people the chance to try out simple electronic aids at home with no obligation and a free telephone helpline on 0300 999 0004 staffed by experienced advisors offering free, impartial advice about mobility products or other types of daily living equipment for older and disabled people, information on where to buy or hire items and details of local organisations that can help.
