Job summary

Positions available in Cornwall and Leeds

Purpose of Position

  • To provide personal care and support to people in their own homes in line with agreed care and support plans and in line with Winserve policies, legislative requirements, and regulations.
  • To care for service users in non-discriminatory ways, respecting each user’s dignity, individuality, cultural and social background and independence.
  • To maintain skills at a level and undertake such training and development as required to remain up to date with best practices.
  • Provide on-the-job training for junior staff and lead by example in service delivery, records management, and service user relationship management.
  • To work with other staff employed by the service and were involved with staff from other services to provide an integrated approach to people’s health and care.
  • To work in partnership with users’ family members and friends who are involved in their care and support.
  • To contribute towards the development, maintenance, and improvement of the working environment within the Winserve team.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care and support, including assistance with bathing, dressing, and grooming.
  • Support service users with daily activities, including meal planning, shopping, and household chores.
  • Administer prescribed medications accurately and maintain medication records.
  • Foster positive relationships with service users, actively listening to their concerns, offering emotional support as well and promoting their emotional well-being and social engagement.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies to encourage positive behaviours and manage challenging behaviours effectively.
  • Accompany individuals to appointments, outings, and social activities to enhance their community participation.
  • Monitor the health and well-being of individuals, promptly reporting any concerns to senior staff.
  • Collaborate with families, therapists, and healthcare professionals to ensure holistic care and support.
  • Assist individuals in developing coping skills and strategies to manage their mental health.
  • Collaborate with mental health professionals to implement care plans and interventions.
  • Document observations, progress, and any incidents by established procedures.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions to enhance your skills and knowledge.
  • Monitor and report changes in individuals' mental and emotional well-being to senior staff.
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for individuals receiving support.
  • Help the Registered Manager organise and conduct in-house staff training and develop training modules for training use.
  • Read and write reports, and take part in staff and service users’ meetings and in training activities as directed.
  • Communicate with service user families on activities relating to their loved one’s care and feeding back to the Registered Manager.
  • Assist junior staff with learning the use of new technologies, key for delivering care provision
  • Any other tasks as assigned by management.

Person Specification — Essential Criteria

The following personal attributes are considered essential to the post of Senior Support Worker. The job holder must be:

  • Sensitive to the needs of others and to the needs of vulnerable people
  • An active team player but also able to work on own initiative
  • A good communicator
  • Able to follow care planning requirements and instructions
  • Role requires staff to work 40 hours per week, Monday - Sunday

Person specification

The job holder must:

  • Be flexible in terms of availability, working hours, and adaptability
  • Have previous experience of care work within the UK
  • Be based in Cornwall or Leeds (Or willing to relocate)

All staff must ensure that they are aware of their responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work, etc Act 1974.

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Have a minimum of one year of care experience within the UK
  • Fluent in English both spoken and written
  • Must have completed a care certificate at the minimum or higher
  • Fluency in English or ILETS minimum score of 6
  • MUST hold a valid UK Manual Driving Licence
  • Must be ready and agree to complete the mandatory training courses
