Job summary

1. Monitoring and Supervision

  • Stay awake for the entire shift to ensure individuals are safe.

  • Carry out regular welfare checks (e.g., hourly or as required).

  • Monitor sleep patterns, behaviours, and nighttime risks.

2. Personal Care Support

  • Assist with toileting, continence care, repositioning, and hygiene needs.

  • Support individuals who wake during the night feeling distressed, confused, or anxious.

3. Medication and Health

  • Administer or prompt medication in line with care plans (if trained/authorised).

  • Monitor health concerns, seizures, or medical conditions.

4. Record Keeping

  • Complete accurate nightly logs, incident reports, and handover notes.

  • Record sleep charts and observations.

5. Household Tasks

  • Light cleaning, laundry, and preparing the environment for the next day.

  • Ensure the setting remains safe and tidy.

6. Emergency Response

  • Respond quickly to alarms, falls, illness, or other emergencies.

  • Follow safeguarding procedures and escalate concerns appropriately.

7. Emotional Support

  • Offer reassurance to individuals who may be distressed or struggling to sleep.

  • Maintain a calm, reassuring presence throughout the night.

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Training Requirement: Learning Disabilities (Minimum One Year) Staff working in this role must have at least one year of training or experience in supporting individuals with learning disabilities. This includes: Understanding different types of learning disabilities Training in communication methods (e.g.
