Job summary

1. Personalised Support

  • Provide tailored support based on each person’s care plan.

  • Assist with daily living tasks such as washing, dressing, eating, and personal hygiene where required.

  • Encourage independence and develop daily living skills.

2. Communication

  • Use appropriate communication methods (e.g., Makaton, PECS, visual aids).

  • Support individuals to express their choices, preferences, and feelings.

3. Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)

  • Follow individual behavior support plans.

  • Respond calmly and safely to behavior that challenges.

  • Maintain positive, respectful relationships.

4. Health & Wellbeing

  • Support with medication, appointments, and health monitoring (if trained).

  • Promote healthy lifestyle choices such as good nutrition, exercise, and emotional well-being.

5. Community Inclusion

  • Support individuals to access social, leisure, education, and work opportunities.

  • Encourage independence in travel and community activities.

6. Safeguarding & Safety

  • Protect individuals from abuse, harm, or neglect.

  • Follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns immediately.

  • Maintain safe, clean living environments.

7. Record Keeping

  • Complete accurate daily notes, incident reports, and support plans.

  • Maintain confidentiality and follow data protection guidelines.

8. Teamwork

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, healthcare professionals, and external agencies.

  • Participate in handovers, meetings, and training sessions.

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Training Requirement: Learning Disabilities (Minimum One Year) Staff working in this role must have at least one year of training or experience in supporting individuals with learning disabilities. This includes: Understanding different types of learning disabilities Training in communication methods (e.g.
