With new tiers impacting many of us across the country, loneliness has been amplified even further this festive period, especially for individuals without family members living nearby.
The team at Care 1st Homecare were determined to not let those they care for be alone, and so, brought the joys of Christmas to them at home.
Bristol-based home care company, Care 1st Homecare, arranged for a surprise trip from Santa, delivering gifts and festive cheer to the individuals they provide home care services for.
Amongst those was Greg Sumner, aged 30, who was left paralysed from the waist down after a serious car accident. Greg lives in a purpose-built bungalow in the centre of Bristol and receives 24/7 support from the Care 1st team.
Following the visit from Santa, Greg said: “Going above and beyond the call of duty to provide wonderful surprises like this is what makes Care 1st truly spectacular. Without them, I simply wouldn’t have the same quality of life I do now. The restrictions may mean that Christmas plans aren’t quite what they should be, but this has really put a smile on my face.”
Under normal circumstances, Care 1st home care in Bristol would have held a Christmas party for clients and carers, however, COVID safety measures have meant this isn’t possible, so they had to change tac and find another way to celebrate.
Upon the announcement of the new restrictions, Kay Morley-Cooper, Managing Director of Care 1st Homecare, along with the team of carers, came up with a plan to create some festive cheer. Enlisting the help of Santa Claus himself, and reciting some carols to practice, the team visited the various homes in Bristol, delivering gifts and festive cheer to all.
Kay Morley-Cooper said: “2020 has not been very fun for many of us. It’s brought out the worst and the best in people. Our job as carers, in times like these, is to ensure that we bring positive cheer to all who need it, and provide support at all times. A huge thank you to all carers, NHS staff and social care workers for their tremendous work up and down the country.”
