On a bright spring afternoon, the lawns of the Isle of Wight were alive with laughter and gentle competition as seniors, caregivers, and staff from Bluebird Care Isle of Wight took part in a very special croquet match. But this was more than just a friendly game—it was part of an inspiring collaboration with the Alzheimer’s Society, designed to support those living with Alzheimer’s and raise awareness of the condition.

What began as a simple idea has turned into a meaningful initiative. Croquet, a traditional British pastime, has proven to be far more than nostalgic fun. Its calm pace, structured play, and social nature make it particularly suited for older adults, including those with cognitive challenges.

Recognising these benefits, Bluebird Care Isle of Wight’s management team introduced croquet as a regular activity for customers. The sessions encourage gentle physical movement, stimulate cognitive engagement, and foster emotional well-being—all in a relaxed, outdoor setting.

Working hand in hand with the Alzheimer’s Society, Bluebird Care Isle of Wight has expanded these events, inviting other care providers to take part. Each match serves as both a community gathering and a symbol of resilience, showing how simple activities can have a profound impact on quality of life.

For many participants, the croquet lawn has become a place of joy, connection, and rediscovery. In a world often focused on complex interventions, Bluebird Care Isle of Wight is proving that sometimes the most effective therapies can be found in the simplest pleasures—a wooden mallet, a sunny afternoon, and the shared spirit of play.
