“We would like to thank Mehwish for doing an exemplary job taking care of our mother both during the wedding ceremony and at the reception. The care she gave enabled us to the enjoy the wedding without having to worry about mum.”

These are the words of Christine Marriott speaking about her recent wedding to fiancé Delroy. Mehwish attended to look after Christine’s mum Phyllis, who has been a customer of Caremark Doncaster for the past few years.

Phyllis was Mehwish’s first customer when she joined us a carer two years ago. The pair have formed a close bond. So much so that Phyllis now looks on Mehwish as one of her daughters.

Because Phyllis is in the advanced stages of dementia, it would have been difficult for her to attend the wedding. Without Christine or her sister Trisha being by her side it would have been a challenge. As she was the bride, this would have been even more difficult for Christine.

But by being at Phyllis’s side throughout, Mehwish took this worry away and a great day was had by all.

“This was the first wedding I have attended in the UK and it was a lovely experience,” said Mehwish.

“Everyone treated me like one of the guests and not someone who was there to work which was very nice of them.

“The main thing was Phyllis was there to see Christine get married and she had a lovely time.”

Before she came to Caremark Doncaster Mehwish worked tutoring children with additional needs, so caring has always been in her DNA.

Swapping Islamabad for Doncaster understandably took some getting used to. Mehwish says she feels very settled. She is loving life as a carer in South Yorkshire, even if the weather is not quite as nice as the Pakistan capital.

“It helped that I received fantastic support from the head office team at Caremark Doncaster. All the customers I met when I first started, like Phyllis, were lovely to me,” she says.

“We learn English as a second language in Pakistan so that made things easier. I am even getting used to the different accents people have.

“I really love my job. You meet lots of different people and I like listening to their stories. I enjoy being able to help them remain in their own home.”

Outside of work, Mehwish enjoys spending time with her husband and indulging her love of writing.
