Overnight care which is a sleeping night, so no interaction apart from giving my mum medication each morning. Hoping carers check on my mum when they arrive each night, even though she is usually asleep.
I looked at the care logs often. When they got there, they would check on your mum, and when she got up in the middle of the night, they would check on her to make sure she was safely back in bed.
It was a pleasure to support your mum and family.
Casterbridge carers have been caring my dad and mum for 3 years or so. Dad was cared for until he passed away and mum until she needed to go into a residential care home. Over that time we had a number of carers, mostly very good. More recently they weren't able to provide the level of care that mum needed. There was insufficient time to stay and ensure that she could feed herself, so if she dropped her cutlery she would not always eat her food. Also more recently she wouldn't always hear what was being asked of her or she might not always understand so her needs weren't always met. And whilst with the previous care agency, the carers might stop for a chat if there was spare time, this rarely happened. So mum was becoming increasingly isolated and wasn't being socialised or stimulated. So whilst her physical needs were mostly met, after dad passed away her social and emotional needs weren't.
I apologise about how you felt with your mum feeling isolated and the carers not spending the time with her. This has been brought to the manager for changes to be put into place.
I know the carers who spent three years with your parents will miss visiting your mum; we hope she has settled into the residential home.
The management and care team go above and beyond to help, always on the end of a phone if you have questions, will try and accommodate changes to rota's at short notice, have even picked my mum up when found wandering near local shop, would highly recommend
Thank you for your review. I am glad we are able to help you and your family.
- the carers are predominantly Asian and there are some language difficulties that I have to overcome
- there are no locals employed in my area apart from the office staff
-office staff are very helpful when contacted but sometimes the phones just ring and is not answered
- my view is that this is due to continual staff changes and lack of adequate staffing
- the company seem to rely on sponsorship deals that tie staff to contract deals
- I see between 4 and 6 carers during the week and this does not encourage a ' relationship' to develop
- as my health has improved I am now more able to fend for myself but I have to have 30 min slots
- sometimes the carers are in and out in 10 minutes
- I am aware rotas are difficult to manage but when carers deploy to other areas outside Weymouth timings go astray, additional staff would rectify this deficiency
We are aware of the phone situation and are currently working on improving this.
We have an open position for anyone in the area, and we will ask the recruitment team to consider more advertisements in local areas.
