As a Senior Carer, you will work with individuals, not for them, promoting autonomy, self-worth, and wellbeing through respectful, consistent care, while also leading by example and inspiring others to deliver the highest standards.
Key Purpose of the Role
- Provide leadership, guidance, and supervision to care staff.
- Deliver high-quality care in line with best practice, legislation, and organisational policy.
- Maintain compliance with CQC Key Lines of Enquiry (Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, Well-led).
- Support the efficient and effective running of the service.
- Maintain and develop personal skills through training and continuous professional development.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Support
- Lead by example and act as a role model and mentor to colleagues.
- Supervise and support staff to deliver safe, person-centred care.
- Organise and conduct staff supervisions, appraisals, and competency checks.
- Support new staff through induction, shadowing, and training.
- Deliver or coordinate refresher training and contribute to staff development plans.
Care Delivery
- Place service users at the heart of care planning and delivery.
- Provide care in line with personalised care plans, respecting individual needs.
- Encourage rehabilitation, self-care, and independence.
- Respect and support diverse cultural, linguistic, and religious needs.
- Actively challenge discrimination and promote inclusion.
Safeguarding & Compliance
- Act as a safeguarding champion, identifying and reporting concerns promptly.
- Participate in audits, spot checks, and quality reviews to ensure compliance.
- Maintain GDPR-compliant, accurate, and timely records.
- Adhere to CQC requirements and organisational policies at all times.
Operational & Digital Systems
- Use digital care systems (e.g. Birdie, GP Connect, Sage HR) for accurate record keeping.
- Complete assessments, care plan updates, and audits using digital tools.
- Dispense and record medication in accordance with policy and training.
- Communicate changes in care needs, incidents, or risks promptly to management.
- Greet visitors and provide tours for prospective clients and families.
Collaboration & Communication
- Build positive relationships with service users, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Recognise and respond to the need for alternative communication methods.
- Work cooperatively with colleagues to maximise opportunities for service users.
On-Call & Emergency Response
- Participate in an agreed on-call rota, providing out-of-hours support.
- Respond promptly to urgent care needs, incidents, or staffing issues.
- Manage medical emergencies in line with training and care protocols, liaising with healthcare professionals when required.
Qualifications & ExperienceEssential:
- NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent).
- Proven experience in a senior or supervisory care role.
- Excellent literacy, numeracy, and English communication skills (written & verbal).
- Understanding of care needs across different age groups.
- Supervisory or management qualification.
Desirable:
- Previous leadership experience in health or social care.
- Knowledge of CQC regulations and inspection requirements.
