Job summary

At Leaf Complex Care, part of the Catalyst Care Group, we are committed to providing expert complex care that transforms lives. We stand on the pillars of Compassion, Impact, and Community —values that guide our actions and our approach to compassionate care. We are seeking professionals who are passionate about making a significant difference in the lives of others while embodying these core values.

We are seeking a dedicated and energetic support worker to provide compassionate, person-centered care to a young autistic man.  The role demands a good level of fitness, as you will be expected to go on long walks, participate in outdoor gardening, and engage in various physical and social activities. Creativity and flexibility are essential to develop new activities that match the individual’s interests and support an active lifestyle.  This young man’s interests are varied and vibrant.  He enjoys football, table tennis, wall climbing, DJing, yoga, swimming, and spending time with friends who share his love of music, cricket, hockey, and street dance.  Living independently, he values close family connections and shares his home with a rescue dog who’s very much part of the team.

While this role may be more suited to male applicants, we welcome applications from all individuals who understand how to positively support someone with an autism diagnosis. This is a real opportunity to make a huge difference, becoming part of someone’s life in a positive and meaningful way.

Responsibilities:

  • Support participation in physical activities such as brisk walking, sports, and gardening.
  • Create and facilitate engaging, person-centered activities aligned with the individual’s interests and needs.
  • Assist with daily living tasks to promote independence and wellbeing.
  • Encourage and support social engagement and family connections.
  • Communicate clearly with the care team and family to ensure seamless support.
  • Participate in ongoing training and supervision to maintain high standards of care.
  • Commit to building trust and long-term consistency in the role.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • High level of physical fitness required, including the ability to walk (or run if needed) at least 8 km per day at a fast pace.
  • Non-smokers required (health reasons).
  • Advantageous to be a driver.

Candidate Traits and Competencies:

  • Energetic, positive, and quick-thinking.
  • Creative and proactive in activity planning.
  • Patient, compassionate, and adaptable.
  • Empathetic and able to adapt to the individuals’ environment.
  • Strong team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Open to feedback and able to incorporate it positively.
  • Committed to long-term involvement and building trusting relationships.
  • Willingness to go above and beyond to support the varied and complex needs of our families.
  • A growth mindset with a passion for making a significant impact on the lives of the families we support.
  • Positive risk taking and reducing excessive restrictions to enhance the quality of life for those in care.
  • A proactive communicator dedicated to high-quality, compassionate, and person-centered care.
