Warming Up Britain on Age UK's Bobble Day

According to Age UK, each winter thousands of older people struggle to stay warm and well or keep in touch with others. When the weather is at it's worst, as many as 200 older people die needlessly every single day.

To help make winter easier for more older people, Home Instead Senior Care, Wolverhampton and the children of Christ Church Infants School and Christ Church Junior School (both in Tettenhall) showed their support for "Bobble Day" by making and wearing bobbles all day. The event which took place on 8 February raised a fantastic £490 (with the Infants raising £252 and the Juniors £238).

As well as having a lot of fun, the childrens' fundraising efforts will pay for nearly 100 visits by a volunteer to an isolated older person, or 40 home visits to check the home is safe, secure or warm, or nearly 25 warm blankets or pay for hot meals and activities at 5 luncheon clubs for older people.

Every penny raised will help Age UK Wolverhampton provide all kinds of support to older people in the City. Because of this and the awareness that was created amongst the children about older people both Head Teachers (Wendy Large and Sarah Blower) plan to support "Bobble Day" every year and hope to make it an even bigger success next year.
