Labour leader Ed Miliband is poised to speak in Lancashire this afternoon on his party’s new vision on integrating health and social care services.
Expanding upon the party’s Whole Person Care approach, announced earlier this year, Mr Miliband is expected to announce a new independent commission, to be led by GP Sir John Oldham, to look into how health and care services can work together more effectively.
Mr Miliband is also expected to bring forward the prospect of care homes being run by NHS services, as a major cost saving measure.
On Twitter this morning, the Labour leader wrote ‘We need to make NHS fit for 21st century’.
We’ll be exploring Labour’s proposals on carehome.co.uk and homecare.co.uk, and assessing the response from the care sector.
