FREE Alzheimer's and other dementia workshops for family and friends

Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias are affecting the lives of more people than ever before. Many families are desperate for help with everyday life while living with the challenges that dementia can bring.

Home Instead Senior Care Durham are delighted to offer support with this by offering FREE workshops on Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias to family carers and anyone whose work or voluntary life brings them into contact with those living with dementia.

You do not need to use our service to attend these workshops

The Home Instead Senior Care ground-breaking family workshops will give people knowledge and understanding to identify the most common signs of dementia and to understand the condition more.

They will also equip family carers and others in the community with effective tips and techniques for managing and understanding why some of the behaviours associated with dementia happen, including refusal, delusions, aggression, false accusations, wandering and agitation.

These workshops are exclusive to Home Instead Senior Care

Topics covered include:

• Recognising the symptoms of dementia

• Understanding behaviour and changes

• Managing those behaviours effectively and safely

• Supporting family carers

The workshops are delivered over two sessions.

The dates of the next workshops are:

Saturday 16th and 23rd November from 10am to 12pm

Wednesday 4th and 11th December from 6pm - 8pm

We will be running further workshops each month during 2014

Sessions will run for approximately 1.5 - 2 hours. Attendance is needed at both workshops to get the most benefit from them. The workshops are interchangeable if you can't attend one of them.

Family members will most benefit from these workshops, however we are not limiting them just to family members. They will be available to local people living and working in the community, in fact, they will be accessible to anyone who may interact with someone with dementia

Workshops will be held at Moor Chambers in Framwellgate Moor, Durham and refreshments will be provided.
