Clarriots Care is getting involved in one of the world’s biggest coffee mornings, the Macmillan Cancer Support’s very own “World’s Biggest Coffee Morning” on 30 September.
It’s a fantastic cause where people all over the UK host their own coffee mornings with their friends, family and work colleagues. Charity donations on the day are made to Macmillan in aid of their noble cause to support cancer patients and research a cure for cancer.
Coffee mornings around the world have raised nearly £140m in support of cancer research to date, but did you know that the first ever coffee morning happened back in 1990. It was a simple concept, with guests getting together over a cup of coffee and donating the cost of the drink to Macmillan while they were there. When this was found to be a hit, it was repeated the next year but on a national scale.
2.5 million people in the UK are living with cancer, with this number set to increase to 4 million by 2030. Macmillian’s goal is to make sure no one faces cancer alone, and to do this they provide a range of different types of support from medical to financial to emotional support.
Louise Barnes, sister in law to Kirsty (Clarriots Care's area and development manager), is holding her own and they are helping to support this… They are even letting Kirsty out of the office for the day! Louise raised an amazing £804 last year and has set a target of £1000 for this year’s event.
The coffee morning is dedicated to Louise and Richard’s (Kirsty’s husband) mum Pauline who sadly lost her battle with Cancer in August 2014.
As well as serving bountiful amounts of Coffee, tea and cake Louise and Kirsty have organised a raffle with some fabulous prizes that include:
• A 2.5hr domestic clean from Clarriots Care • A meal for 2 from the Bull Hotel, Horncastle • A gift voucher from Luna Holistic Therapies, Horncastle • Free Entry to the Lincolnshire Wildlife Park • Vouchers for Tattershall Park • A day fishing ticket for Bain Valley Fisheries • A family ticket for East Kirkby Aviation Centre • A hamper from Happy Camper Crafts • A Personalised gift from Happy Camper Crafts • Plus many more
Louise’s son Harry is having his hair dyed green in an effort to raise even more money and a Local Partylite representative will be there who is donating her commission from any products bought to the cause as well.
One of the best things about the Macmillan coffee morning is that it’s as simple as people getting together and having a chat over a cuppa! Everyone is welcome so feel free to go along and have a drink and a chat. Who knows, you might even make some new friends! The local Clarriots Care Team will be there, so it will be a perfect opportunity to ask any questions about home care.
If you would like to host your own coffee morning, then it’s easy. Head over to the official website, then sign up and you’ll receive a free coffee morning kit containing everything you need to get started.
We hope to see you on 30 September!
