As most of us wind down and look forward to the festive celebrations, spare a thought for the most vulnerable members of our society this year.
Their need for support doesn’t stop just because it’s Christmas. So as you tuck into that delicious Christmas Dinner, surrounded by family and friends, there are an estimated 1.2 million older people in the UK who will find themselves alone this Christmas. For many of them, the care and support they receive from their carers may be the most important gift of all.
Clarriots Care doesn’t stop for Christmas - in fact they are anticipating to deliver nearly 5,000 care visits from Christmas eve to New Year’s day. Their carers are the most wonderful people who have a genuine love for the service they provide.
One of their valued carers based at our Lincolnshire North office, Sue Holden, said: “The best thing about seeing my clients over the Christmas period is making them feel that they’re thought of, not forgotten and appreciated over Christmas.”
Diane Humphreys, who was recently nominated for “The dignity in care award” at the Great East of England Care Awards added: “This year Christmas is just another working day, I will put in extra effort to make sure the people I am supporting don’t feel alone. I generally work with individuals that I’ve been with for a while, so it’s about the Christmas atmosphere in their home and seeing them enjoy the day.”
But it’s not just the carers in the field who will be working this Christmas, its staff like Amy Pickering, one of their office Assistant Managers, who commented: “It’s about seeing their faces when you walk through the door and knowing they are pleased to see you, sitting and having a mince pie with them and making sure they have that little bit of social interaction means the world to them.”
Being a carer is one of the most rewarding career choices.
