On 13 September 2017, Consultus opened its doors to our wonderful Carers and Nurses for our annual Long-standing Carers and Nurses Awards Luncheon, and what a day it was!
We were thrilled and honoured to extend an especially warm welcome to TV and radio presenter Gloria Hunniford OBE, whose vision and ethos to care for others equals that of Consultus. Gloria was kind, gracious and brought a warm light and plenty of smiles and laughs to the event. Upon her arrival Gloria was met by members of Consultus staff, given a tour of Head Office and taken over to one of our Carer Houses.
Our inspirational carers and nurses began to arrive and were greeted by Gloria Hunniford while Consultus staff were on hand to welcome them with drinks and canapes. The atmosphere was electric with our carers and nurses seeing their friends, catching up with acquaintances and meeting new carers and nurses. As Consultus staff came to mingle too, the conservatory was buzzing with chatter and laughter.
At 12.45pm guests and staff made their way into the marquee to enjoy their three-course meal and drinks. Before the meal was served, Peter Seldon CEO thanked everyone for coming and introduced Gloria. Gloria then took to the floor to speak about her charity, the Caron Keating Foundation – a fund raising charity set up by Gloria and her sons, Paul and Michael, helping many cancer charities across the country in memory of her daughter Caron who lost her battle to cancer in 2004. Gloria also spoke of her upcoming OBE award, for her services to Cancer Charities through Breast Screening Services and Cancer Support in Kent, England. Peter Seldon once again took to the ‘floor’ when the meal was over, and the presentations began. It was such a lovely time hearing each and every carer and nurse’s story and Gloria was eager to make conversation with each one as they received their long standing awards and goody bags.
As the evening drew to a close it was time to say goodbye for another year. As the carers and nurses began to make their way home, they were keen to say a big ‘thank you’ to the staff before leaving us – which, of course, was our pleasure to host. “I have met some of the most truly inspirational people,” Ms Hunniford said before she left the Luncheon, “I enjoyed the awards enormously.” It really was a wonderful and heart-warming event, and as we always say, ‘we couldn’t do it without you’!
