North West Kent Volunteer Centre, a local charity that uses volunteers to help elderly clients to maintain their independence, has been selected as our Charity of the Year 2018. The Volunteer Centre, which is based at Twisleton Court in Dartford, provides a range of services for elderly people under its SMILES (Services Maintaining Independent Living and Elderly Support) project, including befriending, gardening and a community transport service to tackle social isolation and lonliness. Having been selected, the charity will now benefit from direct fundraising support from Bluebird Care over the next 12 months. Pauline, CEO at The North West Kent Volunteer Centre, said:
We're very excited that Bluebird Care Gravesham and Dartford has chosen to support our work in 2018.
The demand for our services is growing, so the need to recruit and train new volunteers is essential to the success of the service.
This support will raise much-needed funds that will help us to expand our recruitment of volunteers in the local area.
Nathan, Community Liaison Manager at Bluebird Care Gravesham and Dartford, said:
We are delighted to announce The North West Kent Volunteer Centre as our Charity of the Year. We look forward to raising as much money as possible throughout the year by getting involved in many events and fundraising initiatives. As a home care company, we recognise the essential role that charities like The North West Kent Volunteer Centre can play in helping lonely, isolated people to continue living in their own homes and become an active part of their community. The Volunteer Centre does fantastic work and we look forward to supporting the organisation throughout 2018.
