A little bit of help from Caremark Leeds and Bradford’s home care support team has ensured that Wendy Best is able to continue living in her home and enjoying family life.
Wendy was widowed in 2016 after being married to James for over 50 years, with the couple raising three children.
She now lives with one son, who works nights, and the other son and daughter and several grandchildren visit regularly.
However, after a series of health scares, they worried about mum being left alone during the day.
“I have diabetes and arthritis and a few other things which are getting worse which means I’m now housebound,” said Wendy.
“I want to live in my home rather than a care home and Caremark help me do that.”
Caremark Leeds Bradford staff visit Wendy in a morning to help her get up, washed and dressed. They then return to check she is ok for lunch and then in the evening to help her get to bed.
“I’ve been using Caremark for two years now and they are lovely,” said Wendy.
“Without them I wouldn’t be able to get up but once I am I can use my zimmer frame and still do a bit of housework and washing up.”
Wendy, 82, says she enjoys her chats with the carers and the visits are also good for her children.
“It gives them peace of mind to know someone is popping in during the day to check I am ok when they can’t be there,” said Wendy.
“I look forward to their visits and a chat about our families and what’s going on in the world.”
