Susan Compton speaks from experience when she advises people to see the GP the moment they have any health concerns.
When a sore developed in her foot she thought it would just go away after a few days, but gradually it grew worse and worse.
“I had delayed going to the doctor thinking it was nothing, when I did go he sent me straight to hospital,” said Susan.
“I have diabetes and the wound had become infected and I needed to stay in hospital for two operations.”
It was clear Susan’s mobility would be severely impacted during recovery and so whilst she was in hospital a care plan was drawn up with Caremark Leeds Bradford, Susan’s family and health and social care professionals which would enable her to return to her home to recover.
Caremark now visit every morning to help Susan with personal care and check she’s managed breakfast and medication.
“The carers are brilliant, I couldn’t wish for a better team,” said Susan, 69.
“They are friendly, we have a laugh and a joke and I look forward to seeing them.”
Son Nathaniel lives nearby and is able to pop in most days to see mum, taking her shopping in her wheelchair or spending time in the garden.
“I think it’s also a relief for Nathaniel to know someone is calling in to see me when he can’t be there,” said Susan.
“The podiatrist says I am making good progress, my advice to everyone is see the GP as soon as you feel unwell and use Caremark Leeds Bradford for home care support.”
