Abney & Baker has launched a new preventative care approach designed to help people stay stronger, live more independently, and ultimately need less care.
Building on the success of its EverFit programme, the new Prevent model puts wellbeing at the heart of every home care visit. It focuses on five pillars of healthy ageing: staying active, eating well, connecting socially, maintaining purpose, and caring for mind and body.
For clients on the Prevent+ package, specially trained coaches weave gentle strength-and-balance activities into regular care visits – from sit-to-stands while the kettle boils to short walks without aids – helping people feel more confident and steady at home.
This shift towards prevention reflects local needs. In Bath & North East Somerset, emergency admissions due to falls among people aged 80+ reached 6,683 per 100,000 in 2020/21, while Wiltshire saw 2,247 admissions per 100,000 people aged 65+ in 2021/22. Abney & Baker’s preventative model is designed to reduce risks like these and support healthier, more independent ageing
