This may be Dale Smee’s first job in homecare but, having previously worked in residential care, even after a short time in his new Care Coordinator role at Caremark Kirklees, he has already seen the positive benefits being at home has on our customers.

“A care home bedroom is designed for people to work in which is very different compared to going into somebody’s home where it’s designed for them to live in,” he notes.

“And since I have been here, I have also seen how people are still able to do things for themselves on their own, whereas in a residential setting you always have to think of everybody’s next step.”

Another aspect of the job Dale is enjoying is seeing lots of different customers in their homes.

“I worked in care homes for so long and once you are in building you’re there for 12, sometimes 15 hours a day, so actually getting to visit customers in their own homes where they are more comfortable is really refreshing,” he explains.

Dale has worked predominantly in care since leaving school, initially in childcare before moving to residential care.

“Caring has always come naturally to me and I just couldn’t imagine doing a different job now,” he says.

As Care Coordinator, Dale’s role includes office-based scheduling, staff management, and customer support, developing and updating care plans and ensuring compliance with quality standards and regulations.

“I am really enjoying it,” he says.

“I have been made to feel very welcome and I already feel I have been here a long time.”
