Helping his community recover from a devastating cyclone proved a life-changing experience for Caremark Cheltenham and Tewkesbury Care Assistant Observe Beyi. At the time, he was working for an electrical cable company in Zimbabwe when the cyclone hit. The disaster killed over 400 people and was declared a national disaster. Observe was part of a team going into buildings to help people and restore power.

It strengthened his passion for helping others. Later, when Covid struck he stepped forward again to volunteer at his local hospital.

“We all have the power to stop and help or to just walk by,” said Observe. “My instinct is to support others, especially older people, the underprivileged and those with disability.”

Observe decided to change career and join the care sector. He moved to the UK where his brother works as a doctor.

e had worked with other care companies before joining Caremark Cheltenham and Tewkesbury over two years ago.

“This has been the best company to work for because of the training provided and the staff support, there are clear procedures in place designed to help not hinder you,” said Observe. “

A caring nature will go a long way, but it will go further with the right resources and back-up in place.”

Observe likes to spend days off with his wife and three children. He catches up with relations who are spread all over the world and then spends some time on coursework. He’s currently studying for his Health and Social Care NVQ Level 3.

“There is a clear career path with Caremark and I hope one day to become a care manager,” he said.

“You can make such a difference to people’s lives with Caremark and putting a smile on someone’s face is so rewarding.”
