In her working life, Sylvia Vant knew the importance of doing things the right way. She believes that’s also what makes the best carers stand out. You will discover this in this new customer profile.

A talented seamstress, Sylvia used to make harnesses for aeroplane ejector seats.

“Peoples’ lives might depend on you so you had to get things right and we worked to an accuracy of within 1/16 of an inch” she said. “I’ve always liked things to be done properly.”

Now 77, Sylvia first contacted Caremark Mansfield & Ashfield 11 years ago after breaking her hip in a fall. She’s suffered further falls since and recently also had to overcome a bout of pneumonia. We now visit four times a day to help her with mobility and domestic tasks.

A good carer listens, takes time to understand how you like things done and then gets it right,” said Sylvia.

“I love my carers, they are absolutely brilliant.”

Sylvia enjoys settling down on an afternoon to watch the telly. This could be a classic oldie like Little House on the Prairie, or the latest episode of Coronation Street.

Relatives in Bournemouth ring regularly and she is re-assured to know our team will be calling in to check she is ok. They also help with any tasks and have a chat and the occasional sing song.

“One of my carers, Macey, is a performer and she sang Angels for me. I told her I should be singing that to her because to me they are all angels.”

It’s very important to Sylvia that she continues to live in her flat. With the help of carers to get in and out of bed, she’s able to do that.

“This is my own little place, I’ve been here 20 years and I’m happy here,” said Sylvia.
