Care company celebrates becoming an employee-owned trust
A respected care company based in Hampshire - Everycare (Central & Hants) - has become an employee-owned trust to secure its future and to support clients in the Winchester area.
The team behind a care company helping individuals in the Winchester area, are now running the business through an employee-owned trust. This has helped to secure future sustainability, whilst continuing to provide excellent levels of care to existing and new clients.
Once the business was registered by the CQC (the Care Quality Commission) the small team began to offer live-in care and domiciliary care in the Winchester area. Over the past 14 years the business has grown and developed a strong reputation for good care in the area. Today the team is made up of six office staff who manage operations and 50 carers who are out delivering high quality care in the community.
As part of the Directors retirement plan he opted for an employee-owned trust. The Team saw this as an exciting development and staff have already commented that they feel:
THE EMPLOYEES
- More engaged, committed and motivated
- Full share in the rewards of success - a tax free bonus
- Opportunity for targeted rewards for key people
THE BUSINESS
- Helps create a more resilient and adaptable business
- Preservation of the business' values and culture
- Increased productivity
- A solid foundation for the future growth
“It was a solution which also supported our clients who would not be aware of any changes in the everyday operation of the business and therefore there would be no anxiety or worry for them. It also supported the team and gave them confidence to know that their future is in their hands,” Mike said.
Karen Whitmill, Director & Care Manager, said: “I see the EOT as a great opportunity and we are all looking forward to making the business grow through employee co-operation.”
Today Everycare (Central Hants) Ltd is successfully run by a board of Trustees and are growing in strength, supporting many vulnerable people in the community.
Everycare continue to host many events within the Community such as:
Tech Fest – An event held for people struggling to use modern technology. People are invited to being their gadgets along and the experienced Team are ‘on hand’ to help. This also provides an opportunity for people to come together and socialise.
Fit Fest – An event for over 65’s where they can come along for free personalised fitness demonstrations from a whole host of experts. Speak to health and fitness experts, socialise with other like-minded people looking to live a healthier lifestyle and trial different fitness activities to see what works best for them.
Sustainability initiatives remain important for the business, we explore the longevity of social resources. Especially those that can be achieved through strategies that improve employee wellbeing and retention.
We have invested time in finding resources that consider environmental conservation and we are willing to pay more for products such as PPE that are kind to the environment.
We have implemented various initiatives for our workplace, these include:
- Helped to preserve the environment by improving the sustainability of some of our suppliers.
- Becoming energy efficient – we have had battery solar panels fitted to our new office. Keeping costs down and reduces energy consumption.
- Created a check list whereby we record how much PPE has been handed out, in an attempt to avoid too much waste.
- We are using reusable shoe covers and continue to search for similar products.
- Encouraging our staff to use public transport, where possible and keep mileage to a minimum.
- Reducing single-use plastics in the workplace by:
• Encouraging staff to bring their reusable mugs to work
• Promoting the use of refillable water bottles
Our Business naturally promotes environmental and social responsibility by:
• Having policies that are beneficial to the environment
• Donating funds to charities
• Making environmentally conscious investments
We feel that implementing sustainability initiatives also means working towards reaching the UK government’s net-zero goals.
