What is the Warm Home Discount?
The Warm Home Discount is a government-backed scheme which can help with heating bills.
It’s a £150 discount off your electricity bill. The money isn’t paid to you. The discount is applied straight to your electricity bill.
The scheme is also available to people in Scotland. There is no equivalent scheme in Northern Ireland.
The Warm Home Discount scheme reopens in October 2025.
Who is eligible for the Warm Home Discount?
To be eligible, you must either:
- Get the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit
- Or be on a low income and:
- In England or Wales, you must have high electricity costs
- In Scotland, you must meet your electricity supplier’s criteria for the discount
What energy suppliers are part of the scheme?
Your energy supplier must be part of the scheme for you to receive the discount. There are lots of participating energy suppliers, some of the biggest include:
- British Gas
- Scottish Power
- Octopus Energy
- E.ON
- Shell Energy
- EDF Energy
- Sainsbury’s Energy

If they do not give you a discount, it may be worth changing to a supplier that is in the scheme.
You may also be eligible if you use a pre-pay or pay-as-you-go electricity meter, but you’ll need to contact your supplier directly for more information.
