Overall Experience

We have used Helping Hands for nearly six months and we have carers calling twice a week to help my husband with washing, dressing and applying four different creams that have been prescribed. We have no complaints. The carers are all friendly, efficient and kind. It was such a relief when it was confirmed we could be included in the daily rota, as it offers not only help for my husband but for me too. Thank you to all at Helping Hands, Weston-Super-Mare.

The staff in the office are very friendly and always helpful. The carers I have, continue to be very professional and listen. The days and times I need someone can be complex. Occasional mix up but in the main all goes well. I moved in December and a lady came out to see me. She was keen to assure me and we went through my medical condition and she took notes. She was very professional and I could tell she wanted to assure me that they recognised my needs and that I was happy.

My mother has been treated with care and respect. The staff members have been cheerful and polite and always ask if there is anything else they can do once their duties are complete.

My mother has looked forward to your visits and will miss them now she is better. We would not hesitate to use your service again if it becomes necessary.

My mum has been receiving care and support from Helping Hands since October 2020. As a family we have been impressed by the quality of care of the staff visiting Mum. They are very willing to carry out any task for Mum and also look for things to do to help Mum. Helping Hands try as much as possible to have regular carers calling on Mum and she has built up a real friendship with some of them that call most frequently. The office staff are always polite and helpful. For Helping Hands the rotas must be a very complicated job, but they generally try and arrange visits to Mum's preferred times and we understand why this not always be possible. Although we don't live too far away, it is reassuring for us to know carers are calling 3 times a day and will pick up on any possible problems. I have 2 friends who also use Helping Hands to support their parents and they both recommended Helping Hands to us.

My daughter initiated my use of the service for confidence that I am being checked on between their visits. Beyond this, all the carers have been pleased to accept any help I need, and quietly encourage me to so do while accepting my desire to do all I can for myself (listen to my chat). I look forward to their visits!

Excellent carers, polite and friendly. Look around to see what jobs need doing if client can't think of anything for them to do. Very helpful. A team of regular carers who really get to know the client. Admin staff polite and helpful.

Julie Weeks Job Title: Branch Care Manager
Julie Weeks

About me

As the manager of a busy branch of Helping Hands, it is my responsibility to ensure and maintain a safe service to our customers. I am guided by legislation and law to provide a service which is person-centred, safe, professional and offers continuity of care to customers.
I have been working in care for the past 27 years; I was inspired to do this as I was a young carer for my mother and I wanted to give something back to others in a way I know makes a difference. I am a lady with strong values and offer kindness and understanding towards others. Kindness is at the foundation of our service - I enjoy being able to go out and about seeing the customers and working alongside the team to ensure a personal touch is maintained. I am passionate about supporting others, especially at a time when it is most required.

In my spare time, I enjoy going for walks in the countryside and enjoying the great outdoors.

My experience and expertise

I have worked in the health sector for many years. I started working in care back in 2002 and have completed a variety of different roles within hospitals, care homes and the community. I feel very privileged to be able to continue completing care visits with the customers, alongside our brilliant team of carers.

I took the opportunity to study alongside working and completed diplomas in Health and Social care at levels 3 and 5. I also studied Dementia care and became a Safeguarding Champion in the community. I am an advocate for continual learning and improving knowledge and skills within people's roles, and also empowering people to progress within the company. Knowledge enables people to grow in confidence and be able to pass this on to others, which benefits the business and customers alike.

Why I chose Helping Hands

I am very proud to work for Helping Hands, as we all work together and strive to provide excellent and safe service to the customers. I work alongside an excellent team that offers support to each other and ensure we are all valued and respected within the Helping Hands family. The company are very supportive of all the staff and offers guidance and structure for all.
