Maria’s journey into care began in social services, where she developed a deep understanding of the challenges people can face and the importance of truly person-centred support. She has continued to build on this foundation through ongoing training and learning, including areas such as learning disabilities and domestic violence prevention. These experiences have shaped her belief that every person should be treated as an individual, with dignity, respect and compassion at the heart of their care.
Maria founded Handling Care in 2016 with a clear vision: to provide care that is genuinely centred around the person receiving it. She is particularly passionate about supporting people with complex care needs and helping individuals remain as independent as possible while living in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes.
For Maria, care is about much more than meeting someone's day-to-day needs. It is about getting to know the person, listening to what matters to them, supporting their choices and helping them live a life that feels meaningful to them.
Maria remains closely involved in the day-to-day life of Handling Care and takes great pride in the dedicated team she has built. She aims to create a service where clients and their families feel listened to, supported and confident that they are in caring hands.
Her personal philosophy is reflected in Handling Care’s motto, “Your Smile, Our Priority!”. For Maria, seeing the people she supports happy, comfortable and empowered is what makes the work so rewarding.

Chekira’s journey into care began at home, when her mother was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Supporting her through countless hospital appointments, Chekira witnessed just how much difference kind, dedicated healthcare professionals made to her mother’s experience. That stayed with her, and sparked a calling.
Since then, Chekira has worked in a range of care settings, both in hospitals and out in the community, and studied Adult Nursing. Her experience has shown her the real impact that good care can have - not just physically, but emotionally too. She’s also seen the challenges carers face, and is passionate about making a positive difference from the inside out.
At Handling Care, Chekira leads with empathy and purpose. She believes that care should never take away a person’s independence. Instead, the right support gives people the confidence and freedom to live their lives fully. She takes pride in building meaningful relationships with clients and families, always working to make sure every individual feels listened to, respected, and truly cared for.
Chekira brings warmth, heart, and a deep sense of responsibility to her role. For her, it’s not just about delivering care; it’s about making people feel safe, understood, and valued every step of the way.

Katie’s journey in care began at home, where she supported her mother, who lives with type 1 diabetes and blindness. From helping with hospital appointments and personal care to supporting with medication, caring for her mother gave Katie a strong understanding of the importance of compassionate, person-centred support. It was through this experience that she discovered her passion for caring for others and making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
At just 17, Katie began her professional career as a care worker within a domiciliary care agency. By the age of 20, she progressed into finance management within the care sector, before gaining further experience across recruitment, care coordination and HR management. Her varied experience has given her a well-rounded understanding of the care sector, both from a frontline and management perspective, and continues to shape her commitment to supporting people and delivering high standards of care.
