I started my journey into Health and Social Care after leaving Sixth Form with 3 A levels and no idea of what I wanted to do in life or what industry I wanted to settle in!
Upon leaving education I entered into an administration role at a corporate company my Dad worked for. This role allowed me the opportunity to develop my knowledge of administrative systems and everything you would expect to need to know about the procurement and development of reports and auditing, but the subject base was not an area I found of great interest and so my time with the company didn’t last long!
So I took advice from my sister who was studying to become a nurse and applied to work for the NHS. Starting my career journey within the health and social care sector. I have a number of years experience working within hospital settings, supporting in patient wards and departments for rehabilitation and physiotherapy, health and emergency care and adult forensic mental health. I also gained my NVQ qualifications for health and care during this time.
I then went into adult social care community settings and worked for local authority care coordination and quality assurance team and then within management teams for residential homes and learning disabilities, this was where I gained valuable skills and knowledge in leadership and compliance, and also discovered a passion for providing quality and effective support to vulnerable people through safeguarding.
After spending some time out of employment to be a mum, I returned to adult social care in a safeguarding capacity working for Childrens Social Care as an adult advocate for families experiencing severe levels of domestic abuse, hidden harm, drug and alcohol abuse and complex mental health needs, this experience enhanced my knowledge and skills within a crisis focused setting, and I was able to develop a real interest and passion for providing a person centred approach for every individual.
Recently, I chose to return to quality and compliance, where I have taken the opportunity to mould all my valuable training, skills and experience to support people enjoy and enhance their later years with quality care in safe and supportive environments.
