I’m Derek Sleater, Founder of Sunday Care Therapy and a passionate Occupational Therapist dedicated to helping people live safer, happier, and more independent lives. I believe great care should always feel personal, empowering, and full of compassion — never cold or clinical.

Throughout my career, I’ve focused on creating care services that genuinely make a difference to people and their families. With over 20 years of experience working across health & social care throughout London, I’ve developed a deep understanding of vulnerable adults, families and the diverse communities that make this city so special.

As a born and bred Londoner, I pride myself on being approachable, understanding and able to connect with people from all walks of life. My career has always centred on communication, compassion and building trust to shape my daily work at Sunday Care Therapy.

Alongside my professional background, I have a real passion for travel and exploring different cultures. I’ve visited over 45 countries so far, with many more still on my list. Travelling has broadened my perspective, helped me grow as a person and strengthened my ability to connect with others on a deeper level. Experiencing different ways of life has taught me the importance of empathy, understanding and human connection. This is something I carry into both my personal and professional life.

I am Carolyn. I have worked as an OT for over 20 years, within health and social care, from neonatal to palliative. I strongly believe that there is always a solution; we just need to think beyond standard equipment catalogues and be inventive to meet a need. My time volunteering in a Ugandan clinic reminded me how to utilise household objects for therapeutic use and the power of crafts, especially within communities.

I have developed a commitment towards the moving and handling of a person; I believe it should flow seamlessly like a ballet dancer on the stage, moving from one platform to the next. This can only be achieved with the right equipment and the right balance between a person's involvement and a carer's support.

I have a keen passion for reconnecting people with enjoyment and fun, as so often life becomes about illness, disability and meeting basic care needs. With my clients, it has become about 16th-century art, shopping for chocolates, lunching with old friends and eating ice cream. I am committed to achieving their desires, not just talking about past hobbies.
