Local man and owner of local home care company, Home Instead Greenwich and Bexley, Fatta Thapa has been named as one of the country’s ‘Platinum Champions’.

To celebrate the Jubilee, 70 most outstanding volunteers from across the UK were awarded as ‘Platinum Champions’ for their enthusiasm towards helping others.

Recognised for his dedication to voluntary service and helping older people living with dementia within his local area, Fatta joined 70 other Platinum Champions at the Platinum Party in the Palace and the Eden Project’s Big Jubilee Lunch in London over the Jubilee weekend, the winners had a chance to meet HRH Prince of Wales and HRH Duchess of Cornwell at the lunch.

As the owner of ‘outstanding’ home care provider, Home Instead, Fatta runs various community awareness events on a volunteer basis. Supporting older people and people with dementia is one of them.

Fatta is an Alzheimer's Society's Dementia Ambassador and part of his role is to hold dementia friends sessions in the community, helping families learn how to spot the condition and how to support their loved ones living with Alzheimer's and other dementia-related diseases.

Fatta also runs "memory cafes" in the community where people with dementia can take part in activities that help them cope with their diagnosis. Recently, Home Instead Greenwich and Bexley also won a Civic Award from the Mayor of Bexley for outstanding achievements in supporting older people

The Platinum Champions are people from across the UK who are being celebrated for going the extra mile to improve the lives of others. The initiative was launched by the Royal Voluntary Service and supported by M&G. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and HRH The Duchess of Cornwall are patrons of the Royal Voluntary Service.

Fatta was selected as a champion from over 3,000 nominations – with an extremely high entry standard.

Fatta comments: “It is an absolute honour to have been named as one of the UK’s ‘Platinum Champions '.

"To attend the Platinum Party and Jubilee Lunch was also amazing, being in the presence of royalty and so many other amazing people. The initiative is a wonderful way to recognise people who go out of their way to support others, and it is truly heart-warming to be amongst such inspirational people.”

Fatta was nominated for the ‘Platinum Champion’ award by a Care Professional working at Home Instead, who witnesses the amazing volunteer work he does through events including Dementia Cafés, Community Dementia Awareness Training, the company’s Stay Nourished, Prevent Hospitalization, Fraud Awareness and Stand Up campaigns, as well as their ‘Be a Santa to a Senior’ Campaign in the festive period.
