Home Instead Watford has announced that its popular dementia support group, previously known as the Rose and Rest Retreat, has been relaunched as the Home Instead Watford Memory Café with a new permanent home to match its growing place in the local community.
The monthly group, which has run for over a year, brings together individuals living with dementia, their family members, and carers in a relaxed and welcoming environment. The decision to rename the sessions reflects how the group has evolved, from its early beginnings into an established community gathering that reaches well beyond Home Instead's existing clients.
From April, sessions now take place on the third Thursday of every month, from 10:30am to 12:30pm, at North Bushey Baptist Church, 218 Park Avenue, Bushey, WD23 2BD. Attendance is free, no booking is required, and refreshments are provided.
Stephanie Turner, Group Business Development Manager at Home Instead Watford, said: "The Memory Café has grown into something truly special, and that is entirely down to the warmth of the people who come through the door each month. Moving to a permanent home at North Bushey Baptist Church feels like a real milestone and it gives us a wonderful space to build on everything we have created over the past year. We want anyone in the local community who is living with dementia, or caring for someone who is, to know that there is a place for them here. You don't need to book, you don't need to have any connection to Home Instead, just come along, have a cup of tea, and let us take care of the rest."
Over the past year, the Memory Café has welcomed guest speakers including a Dementia Care Champion, a local GP partner, and a beauty professional who led pamper sessions for attendees, reflecting the team's commitment to making each session both meaningful and enjoyable. Arts and crafts, gentle activities, and open conversation have become central to what the group offers.
With dementia affecting one in eleven people over the age of 65 in the UK, Home Instead Watford established the group to ensure that those navigating the condition and those caring for them, have a local space where they feel genuinely understood.
The Memory Café is open to anyone in the Watford and Bushey area, regardless of whether they are an existing Home Instead client. For more information, contact the team on 01923 250 513.
