Cheryl is an absolute whizz with the iron. I don’t know how she does it so well. She has been absolutely amazing from the start,” said a grateful customer.
“From her initial interview I knew this was the role for Cheryl. Thank you for being such a compassionate and loving presence at Caremark. Your dedication does not go unnoticed. The warmth and love you bring into your work brightens the lives of those you care for. You’re incredible,” said Cheryl’s manager.
Whether it’s her customer or manager, everyone is fulsome in their praise for Cheryl Bateman, who joined Caremark Kirklees in 2022.
Prior to that, she worked in a pharmacy for 19 years. Changes to the service introduced following the pandemic prompted her to consider her options and after a friend who was working for Caremark suggested she apply, she did and as she says: “the rest is history”.
Like the vast majority of carers, she admits to finding those early days a little bit of a culture shock as she got used to going into strangers’ homes for the first time.
“It is a little strange at first when you are rummaging through drawers looking for spoons or a cup. You do get used to it quickly though,” she says.
“Now, I have my own little rounds and know all my customers and their families well and I love my job.
“Seeing people’s faces when I arrive, especially when they’re on their own, and they say it’s nice to see you is just lovely and then hearing the nice things they say about you at the awards is always great to hear.”
Cheryl says she feels well supported in her role and appreciates that she can pop into the office or pick up the phone at any time.
“Everyone is very helpful and I definitely made the right decision by coming to Caremark,” she says.
