Caring has always been part of life for Tsungirai Kutsime, the only difference now is that she is now doing this in the slightly less warmer climes of West Yorkshire.

Originally from Zimbabwe, Tsungirai, started working for Caremark Kirklees in March 2024 and due to her background, was able to hit the ground running in homecare, even if the weather did take a lit bit of getting used to at first.

“I worked in a hospital as a Nurse Aide and in my country, you traditionally care for older family members, so I was used to looking after others,” she explains.

Going into people’s homes was, of course, a new experience for Tsungirai, but one she embraced quickly.

“You soon get to know your customers really well and they become like part of your family,” she says.

“Now, when we I haven’t seen someone for a couple of weeks, and I see their name on my rota, I really look forward to it.”

She describes the relationships she builds with customers as being about much more than traditional care.

“They don’t always have people visiting them, so when you come it’s companionship for them too,” she adds.

“We talk from the moment I arrive until I leave!”

Tsungirai’s dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed. She was recognised at our Carer of the Year Awards in 2025, something she remembers fondly.

She says: “Hearing customers say nice things about you gives you energy. It keeps you going.”

Her appreciation for Caremark Kirklees is equally as strong.

“Caremark is the best place,” she says adds.

“We’re treated with respect and they always appreciate our work. The Directors Fiona and Duncan are helpful and friendly and the office team led by Katie and Natasha are amazing too.”

Looking ahead, Tsungirai hopes to continue developing her career.

She explains: “I’m looking forward to studying further and upgrading myself in care. In the coming years, I see myself in another position within Caremark and if they can offer me that, it would be a bonus.”

Outside of work, Tsungirai enjoys spending time with her husband and their two children.
