Calon Lan Community Care - Conwy

We have been really impressed by the care and support given by Calon Lan at a very difficult time for us as a family. Through links with another care provider, our 93-year-old Dad was provided with a live-in carer, who was amazing. Equally amazing was the back-up and support she had from her Calon Lan manager. Nothing was too much trouble for him and he came out late at night on more than one occasion when the carer needed assistance, providing care himself, and once staying for several hours to ensure our father was safe. He was always available at the end of the phone, friendly and reassuring, and, through close working with social services, was able to help resolve issues that arose. Extra support was provided when needed and the care given by both live-in and additional carers was exemplary. All staff showed great patience and forbearance with Dad, when he was difficult, and we are eternally grateful for their support. We would thoroughly recommend Calon Lan to other families.

We are both retired NHS professionals. 'Care' received was unacceptable. Despite us both being high risk for Covid, any 2 of 20 carers could attend, contra to Public Health guidance in the pandemic. No care plan was provided, only a plastic A4 with bank paper inside. The client did not experience being treated with dignity and respect. Carers' competence varied greatly. Most did as little as possible in as short a time as possible, seldom the 30 min being charged for: on one occasion there was dried faeces on his body after "shower"; clothes were put on back to front; continence wear was not fastened and fell off; soiled continence wear was left in room; PPE masks slipped; a carer had to be asked to wear mask. Diabetic need to manage blood sugar levels safely was disregarded and times of calls changed with no notification. The manger designated to 'Complaints' demonstrated some interpersonal skills, but two other managers were hostile at the worst and disinterested at the best.

Very satisfied with the exceptional level of care and support given to my mother. In particular, we have been very impressed with the care she received during the Covid-19 pandemic when we were unable to visit for 4 1/2 months.

We have found everybody, carers and staff wonderful, very supportive, and we have been treated with respect and compassion.

We couldn't manage without the lovely carers. My mum looks on them as friends and looks forward to their visits. All are dedicated and patient.

Since the onset, the standard of care has been professional and sensitive and tailored to my son's needs. The team is very good and my son is happy with the support he receives.

I have also had dealings with the office and they are really helpful and if the person is not there, they always phone me back, they also change their appointment times to see my Dad so that suits me.

My stepmother was living in England with little support and struggling. I moved her to an assisted living apartment but needed further assistance using Calon Lan who stepped in at short notice.
