I had Bluebird when my family were away and I will most certainly have them next time. Wonderful carers, absolutely marvellous. I knew who was coming and what time, and they were spot on the dot! They managed to do everything I needed in the time I paid for - fantastic. Cheery, chatty, kind, thoughtful people. I cannot praise them enough.

The carers always have a lovely smile when they come to see me. I think of them as friends. Nothing is too much trouble for them. They help me to get up and washed and dressed and they put all of my washing in for me. They go above and beyond - all of them. They play dominoes with me at every call - they always make time to do this.

The carers are very good to me. I get help to have a shower and sometimes they come with me to hospital appointments. They are all such nice people, they offer to do any jobs around my house as well as showering me. I find them a great help.

I have been using Bluebird Care (York) for weekend mornings for several years now. One of my requests before using them was for the carers to come at a specific time on both Saturday and Sunday, they have never let me down. Their time keeping is excellent. Bluebird Care has provided home care for my mum for 2 years now and I can only say that the care provided is of an excellent standard. All the carers work really hard to do the best for my mum which is very reassuring to me and my sister and it means my mum can continue living at home even though she is 94 years old and has dementia. I would 100% recommend Bluebird Care as we've had various care providers over the years and without doubt Bluebird Care are head and shoulders above the rest.

The review seemed very comprehensive. My mother and I are satisfied with the service and the questions we were asked. My mother, as well as with many elderly people, need encouragement to eat and drink. The carers can do this if they have time to watch her eating - carers are very cheerful and caring on the whole and sometimes need to encourage her a bit more.

Due to the increase in my father's needs, Bluebird Care (York) were the third care company we have used in York, and definitely the best. They did everything in their power to put together the non-standard package that he needed, and it was clear even from the initial assessment visit that they are caring, professional and trustworthy.
Dad's carers were extremely kind, punctual, efficient and treated him with dignity. Bluebird Care is easy to contact at any time and the management, and office staff are always polite, friendly and helpful. We couldn't have asked for more from a care company and I have no hesitation in recommending them to others.

The staff at Bluebird are brilliant, they always arrive on time. The staff make sure I am ok and get me everything I need. They make showering a pleasure when usually it is something I dread. The office staff always ring and tell me if my carers are running late or if my call times have changed. Every single person at Bluebird I have come across, have been very very pleasant and I have no issues with recommending them to anyone else.

I was the next of kin and Registered EPA holder for my cousin, recently deceased, who lived in York; I live in Leicestershire.
Both her legs were amputated above the knee twenty years ago. A determined personality, she lived independently until a major accident in 2011 necessitated a heavy duty care package delivered in her adapted bungalow. She was not the easiest person with whom to deal! Especially with the distance involved (3 hours drive) it was vital for me to employ a carer in whom I had total trust.

Bluebird did an excellent job in every respect. Visiting four times a day, the carers built up a relationship of mutual trust providing a full range of personal services with complete professionalism. This is coincidentally a tribute to the quality of management and training. They were very responsible in keeping me informed of any significant event of development,

I am confident that Bluebird made a major contribution to the quality of her life and highly recommend them.

I appreciate everything my carers do for me. I enjoy the carers company. My carers help me stay in my own home, assist me with all my needs. They get me ready to go visit my wife which I'm most grateful for as I miss my wife and my weekly visits are very important to me. Bluebird York have been looking after Mum (aged 92 and very confused) for nearly 2 years and we are delighted with the service. The carers are always professional and friendly and have Mum's best interests at heart. Their care means that she can stay with us rather than go into a nursing home. We have recently started using Bluebird care (York) for a visit each weekend morning to provide personal care. My partner has MS and is unable to wash, shower or dress herself. Bluebird care have so far provided an excellent service. They were able to come at our requested times and therefore give me a break at weekends and enable us to be ready for the day ahead in plenty of time. This has made a massive difference to our weekend lifestyle and for that I thank them very much. The carers are sensitive to my partners needs and have even started helping with her make-up. We receive a rota each week so we know who is coming to visit, and I hope the continuity of familiar and regular carers continues. We are very happy with the service so far and would recommend them to others.

Would really recommend this company to anybody. They take their time with their clients, often my mum would need more time than was allocated and this was rarely a problem for the carers attending her. I was impressed with the advise that they gave to me regarding my mum's care and when we needed to find a home for my mum they supported me the whole time. Couldn't praise them enough

In my position as a supervisor at Bluebird Care, my role is to support our staff and ensure that the quality of care is consistent and one that I can be proud of.

I am usually the first person that our customers meet as I will carry out their assessments and liaise with the co-ordinator to set up the care package.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and going on days out and visiting new places. Recently I have visited Egypt several times and really enjoy the culture there, the sights to see and things to do. As a result of this I am interested in watching documentaries etc. regarding this. I also support my partner to scuba dive which means we often go on weekends away to various new places in order for him to do this, whilst away we always enjoy seeking out the local attractions and cultures.

At 6.45am, I will arrive at my first appointment of the day. 88-year-old Florence lives on her own and needs help starting her day. Although I don’t actually start my shift until 7am, I always like to get there slightly early as I know Florence will always be looking out the window, awaiting my arrival.

For many of my clients, I am the only person they will see in a day so it’s important to make sure they know they are the focus of my attention during a visit.

I will help Florence get washed and dressed and make her some breakfast. I tidy her surroundings and ensure she is settled, safe and secure. But, most importantly, I talk to her and listen to how she is feeling.

We see many reports in the media about ‘clock-watch care’, where visits are restricted to 15 minutes or less, with one recent story even claiming that half a million home care visits last less than five minutes. It would be impossible for me to get anything done that is of value to people in this short time. The minimum amount of time I will spend with a client is 30 minutes, which means I can get to know their unique qualities rather than just see them as a checklist of care needs.

Florence is certainly worth more than just a tick on my rota; she is a fascinating lady who deserves my complete focus during my time with her. I’ve got to know her little ways, such as making that cup of tea just how she likes it - with a squeeze of lemon and a drop of honey.

Paying attention to the finer details and adapting to each call is an essential part of my role. As well as Florence, I can see another four to five people throughout the day - some days I will see up to 12 clients, it will depend on their needs. Later, when I am with another customer, John, I will need to turn my hand to making a bacon sandwich with the bread slightly toasted and with a slight smear of mustard – his particular favourite.

I can’t sing for toffee, but one of my clients is a nervous, self-conscious lady and I discovered one day that she relaxes more if I sing to her while getting her washed and dressed. My mischievous sense of fun appears to be an effective way of connecting with many of my clients, who are themselves such characters with wonderful stories to tell. I will help them in a variety of ways; from essential tasks, such as ensuring they take their medication, to more social activities, such as going to the shops or for a little walk outside.

Caring for people is an awesome responsibility and I feel enormous privilege to be given that trust. I know that it is a daunting and scary experience to accept someone other than family into your home and life.

I was inspired to work in home care after caring for my own husband, mother and daughter during illness and before they died, so I know first-hand the importance of helping people feel as comfortable as possible in an environment that means something to them.

I joined Bluebird Care-York because of its reputation as a care provider that puts customers first and for delivering the level of care that you would expect for your own friends and relatives.

With over 20 years' experience in the care industry, Yvonne comes with a wealth of knowledge in all aspects of care work.
Having worked in various care settings from nursing homes through to care in the community, Yvonne has also held care co-ordinating and supervisory roles.

Yvonne is a friendly and approachable person, married with a grown up son. Her hobbies are arts and crafts and reading. She also takes care of her many pets and enjoys long walks with her two dogs, Tommy and Buddy.

Yvonne is passionate about care and feels that even after 20 years there is always more to learn and as such can still be found not only attending courses but also running courses to help improve knowledge and care standards for all.
