Phoenix care provided Homecare for my mother for several years. Throughout these years the staff have been professional, caring, supportive and instrumental in allowing my mother to spend her last years in her own home. Having carers coming into a family home can be intrusive, yet phoenix care were
always respectful and their presence was always welcome. They have always had a flexible approach in ensuring that my mother received the care she needed and were always respectful of her wishes. The consistency of staff over the years allowed many of the staff to become my mother's friends, sharing in celebrations, and tragedies with compassion and empathy.
I would, without any reservation, recommend Phoenix care to anyone requiring home care for them or their loved ones. It is only when you see the difference good home care can make, do you truly appreciate the value.
Reply from Joanne Thompson, Director at Phoenix Care LtdThank you David for your wonderful review. It was a pleasure caring for your mother. We miss her so much.

We find Phoenix care to provide a professional service to my mother. Good communication is kept with the family as a whole.
My wife was a senior care manager within the Social care sector for 30 years and therefore is able to assess and monitor the performance and care of the organisation on a day
to day basis,
The staff arrange all mum's medical requirements and arrange the wording of medicines etc.
We seem to have a good rapport with management and care staff at all times.
Mum on the main would seem to have a very good report with the careers on a day to day basis,
We are also very pleased with the ability of the administration in relation to clear and correct billing.
Overall we are very happy with Phoenix Care.
Reply from Joanne Thompson, Director at Phoenix Care LtdMany thanks for your response, Chris. It's a pleasure caring for your mother.

This care company is amazing. We were lucky enough to be able to change from an inadequate care provider to Phoenix, and wow! What a difference it has made. We now have regular visits, at regular times and all care needs are met. And so much more than that. The carers have all been so kind and thoughtful
with my mother-in-law, it's made a positive difference to her and us. They've arranged extra things like automating medication deliveries, and have been happy to help with other things too. Our mother-in-law lives a distance from us so it's been a godsend to have trust in what they are providing - a stark contrast to the previous company. The manager has been amazing too, helping to arrange a smooth transition, and they all deserve medals. I'd have no hesitation in recommending this company, they seem to treat the staff well and understand how to run an effective and efficient care service. Thank you all.
Reply from Joanne Thompson, Director at Phoenix Care LtdThank you so much for the kind review Jo. I'm so happy to hear we have made such a difference. Once again many thanks.

Dad suffered from dementia and Parkinson’s, it’s a heartbreaking time. We knew he wouldn’t get better but at least we knew he was as comfortable and at home! Mum forever promised no care homes! The personal care provided to dad was with dignity, he was always clean, neatly shaven and smelt lovely. His
mobility deteriorated, some days much worse than others, it was a difficult day the time was always given. The package of support was certainly individualised to dad. The communication of a log between carers always ensured even on the bad days he was cared for well. It’s the bigger picture from Phoenix, the emotional support that was needed, especially to mum as she struggled too, physically but more sadly her heart was breaking for her husband of 60 years. Phoenix's mission is to put the care back into caring. For us, that statement was well and truly upheld. I am forever grateful.
Reply from Joanne Thompson, Director at Phoenix Care LtdThank you so much for this review, we loved caring for your dad, such a lovely man, I'm so glad you chose us and that we made that difference. Our mission was completed. We miss them both so much, it would be so nice to pop in and see her for her wonderful coffees! Hopefully, when safer to do so, we shall see her very soon. Thanks once again Debbie, it is appreciated.

At first, Mum was reluctant to have any carers to help her. She had Alzheimer's Disease and found it difficult to admit the need for help. The staff at Phoenix Care worked with us to ensure that Mum was given her medication on time and that she was given some encouragement to eat and drink regularly.
The Phoenix staff built a good rapport with Mum and spoke to my sister and I to find out about her past experiences, jobs and pets that she could remember. The carers that visited regularly, managed to use this information to keep Mum's mood up and make her laugh. Mum was reluctant to leave her chair. On a nice day, a short walk became another job for the carers. The care continued daily during the pandemic. As Mum's condition worsened, my sister and I were staying more at Mum's and the Carer's, or Mum's ladies as she called them, gave us a short but needed rest. The end-of-life care provided by Phoenix was seamless as Mum continued to be cared for by her ladies and daughters together.
Reply from Joanne Thompson, Director at Phoenix Care LtdMany thanks for the kind review, Julie. It was a pleasure to care for your mum. She is dearly missed.

When we realised that we could no longer give Nanny the care and attention that she needed, finding someone we trusted to care for her seemed terrifying. A close friend recommended Phoenix Care Ltd. The owner came to see us and took time to talk to us and to Nanny, spending time to really get to know
her. The owner was knowledgeable, supportive and caring, she truly wanted to make a difference to Nanny’s quality of life. Nanny was soon seeing care visits as time with her ‘friends’. The fear we had quickly melted away, replaced by relief that we had taken the right decision. Phoenix Care Ltd made a life-changing difference to Nanny’s final years. The level of care Nanny received gave us more time with her. At least one more Christmas dinner, ice-creams in the garden with the great grandchildren and a thousand more smiles than we ever expected. Nanny was certainly in the best hands and the smile on her face, when the carers arrived, tells me Nanny knew that too. My deepest thanks to Phoenix Care Ltd.

Phoenix Care cared for my late brother for the last 4 years. The support, care and commitment provided by the manager and her team was second to none. Nothing was too much trouble and they were always there when needed at the drop of a hat. Would strongly recommend Phoenix Care. A professional, caring
and without question reliable and trustworthy care provider.

I have nothing but admiration for the professional and efficient care given by the Phoenix team to my aunt in the last months of her life, and gratitude for the compassion, thoughtfulness and kindness they showed to her during that time.
All this was done during the peak of COVID. It would be impressive
at any time but more than I could have believed in times like these.
My aunt spent her entire working life nursing or training nurses, and her standards were traditional and high. Phoenix met those standards, and she always spoke very highly of their staff.
Her fiercest wish is that she would be able to pass away in her own home. While any death is sad, to die peacefully in your own home feeling safe and cared for after a long and full life is as good as it gets. Phoenix enabled her to finish life on her own terms with genuine empathy and true professionalism.
Reply from Joanne Thompson, Director at Phoenix Care LtdThank you so much for such a positive response. It was a pleasure looking after your Aunt. We are happy that she got her wish to stay at home, our only regret is that we didn't know her earlier, such a character and such a wise woman. Again thank you for taking the time to write this review.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.750) out of 10 for Phoenix Care Ltd is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Home Care Provider is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 5.000 for Phoenix Care Ltd is calculated as follows: ( (58 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 58 Ratings = 5
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

    The 5 points available are broken down as follows: 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.5 Points for the second and third Positive Reviews, 0.25 Points for each of the next two Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3, 2nd = 0.5, 3rd = 0.5, 4th = 0.25, 5th = 0.25, 6th = 0.05, 7th = 0.05, 8th = 0.05, 9th = 0.05, 10th = 0.05, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025)

    The 5 points relating to the number of Positive Reviews for Phoenix Care Ltd is based on 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as follows: 3 + 0.5 + 0.5 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 4.75
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Home Care Provider does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Team Manager Joined: 2021

I’m Joanne, and I’m the Team Manager here at Phoenix Care. I started my journey in care in July 2021, and since then, my role has grown so much — I genuinely love everything about what I do. I’m lucky to have a varied role where I can still work directly with our clients, supporting them in their day-to-day lives, while also being involved with the office team and wider support network.

Before working in care, I spent 25 years in finance, but I wanted to do something more meaningful — something where I could really make a difference to people’s lives. Moving into care gave me that opportunity, and it’s been incredibly rewarding ever since.

For me, great care is about supporting people in a way that respects their dignity and independence, while helping them feel safe, valued, and empowered. It’s the little things that matter — from personal care to home-cooked meals, and especially spending quality time together and offering companionship.

What makes Phoenix Care special to me is the support and opportunities I’ve been given. I started as a support worker and have been able to progress into a management role with the help of amazing guidance and training. It’s a team that truly cares — both about the people we support and each other — and I’m really proud to be part of it.

Outside of work, I enjoy sewing and love finding unique vintage fabrics or patterns to create one-off pieces. It’s something I find relaxing and a great way to switch off.

I really enjoy the variety that comes with working in care and, most importantly, meeting and supporting all the amazing people we look after. For me, great care is all about trust, honesty, compassion, and being consistent in everything we do for our clients.

Phoenix Care feels like a real family to me. It’s a family-run business, and once you start working here, you quickly feel part of that — not just as a team member, but as part of a wider family.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my family and grandchildren, and I also enjoy getting out for walks with my dogs.
