Right at Home Salisbury & Andover, based in Old Sarum, organised a community outreach event aimed at supporting older residents and their families with advice on staying safe and well at home.
Throughout the event, the team handed out free community goody bags containing helpful information about local home care services, winter wellbeing guidance, sweet treats and complimentary thermometers to help residents monitor their home temperature during the colder months.
However, according to Registered Manager, Debra Sheldon, the most valuable part of the event was not what was given away, but the conversations that took place.
“We had so many meaningful discussions with families who are beginning to worry about ageing parents, as well as older residents who simply wanted reassurance and someone to talk to,” she said. “Often people are unsure where to turn for advice. Being visible in the community and approachable makes a real difference.”
The outreach event focused on early intervention, helping families recognise the subtle signs that a loved one may need additional support at home before a crisis occurs.
The team discussed topics such as reducing falls risks, maintaining independence, companionship to combat loneliness and how small amounts of support can prevent hospital admissions.
Right at Home Salisbury & Andover is a family-led home care provider delivering companionship, personal care and respite support across Salisbury, Andover and surrounding villages.
Debra added: “Care does not start with a contract. It starts with trust. Days like this allow us to build that trust, answer questions and reassure people that help is available locally when they need it.”
The company thanked Waitrose Salisbury for welcoming them and supporting the initiative.
