My care is good when our permanent carer attends. I go out and feel safe. But when she is not available I'm sent carers who are unable to meet my disability needs.

An excellent service, which provides real peace of mind. It means that I can go food shopping in peace, knowing that the carer has taken my husband to a garden centre for coffee and cake! My husband has Alzheimer's and knowing that the carer comes every Monday morning is very reassuring.

Your carer arrives on time and takes my wife to various venues for two hours per week, leaving me to pursue activities like gardening or house repairs for two hours. Well done, much appreciated.

I have been very pleased with the help Crossroads has provided, enabling myself as a carer to have a regular break away from the house once a week. The sitter is a friendly, kind, caring lady who engages with my elderly father and shows a genuine interest in conversing with him. She is punctual and I feel confident, despite my initial reservations, to go out and leave my father in her care for two hours. Crossroads keep me well-informed with regards to occasional changes to visits, e.g. a different person coming, and I am very grateful for their support.

Crossroads is a very good company, it helps people to have free time when you are a carer and helps the client have some time away from the carer.

Reply from Vanessa Perkins, Client Partnership and Engagement Manager at Crossroads Caring For Life

Thank you for your comments on the Crossroads Caring For Life Services. We are happy to hear you are happy with the way the charity works and supports people. We always believe once a relationship is built up between the support worker and cared for person, it adds another dynamic to the unpaid carer and cared for person's relationship, in a positive way.

The service is of good help and the person who comes to us is great in every way. She is polite and very aware of her duties, which are carried out to the letter. I think that my only concern is that the company should ask carers to pass comments on the way your staff appraisals are done, because they are good staff.

Crossroads provide me with three hours respite on Mondays (11:30 to 2:30) and Wednesday (12:00 to 3:00). Both carers have formed a close bond with my wife and are wonderfully caring and empathetic. My occasional dealings with the management have been more than satisfactory.

I am provided with support to go shopping, companionship, and someone to talk to. Crossroads helps me to make my own choices, e.g. whether I or not I decide to attend my day centre. My carers are friends to me. An ex-carer takes me to visit my 97-year-old mother by car, who lives in Stevenage.

Initially I was rather sceptical about having a complete stranger come into my home to sit with my husband who was virtually immobile. However, after the first couple of visits I began to feel really quite comfortable with the situation. My husband had Alzheimer’s so was not able to remember who had come or why or when they came, but he was quite happy to have someone new to talk to, who took an interest in his well being and in what he had to say. So it was a very good working relationship.

Crossroads Caring For Life look after my wife eighteen hours every week. The care is second to none. They always keep me informed if a change is needed. They also have been able to help us if I have needed additional help.

Without their help, I could not have continued looking after my wife. The ladies who look after her ensure they do all they can to have the best quality of life she can. They always leave her smiling and that is a god send.

I am qualified at Level 7 in Care Management, strengthening my leadership and sector expertise. In my current position, I oversee quality and compliance across the organisation, ensuring we meet and maintain all CQC regulatory requirements. I also deliver training and am proud to be recognised as an accredited in-house training provider through our local Provider Association.

My journey into the sector began as an unpaid carer, giving me first-hand understanding of the challenges faced by the people we support and their families. This perspective continues to shape my approach and commitment to high-quality care.

As part of the Executive Team, I am involved in strategic planning and decision-making, working closely with our Board of Trustees to support the growth, direction and sustainability of the organisation.
