Looking after someone can be overwhelming, but Crossroads is here to help. Crossroads Caring for Life is an independent, not-for-profit charity with over 50 years’ experience supporting unpaid carers and their families. Support is available for older adults, adults with physical disabilities or learning disabilities and those living with dementia or long-term health conditions. All care is person-centred, delivered with dignity and tailored to you and the individual you support.
Homecare: practical and personal support in the individual’s own home, from personal care and medication to meals, mobility support and engaging activities. Visits are a minimum of 30 minutes to ensure meaningful, unhurried care delivered by a dedicated team of trained, DBS-checked Support Workers.
Carers Breaks: designed to give you time to rest and recharge, with care provided at home or out in the community. Breaks are a minimum of 2 hours, with familiar Support Workers wherever possible for peace of mind and continuity.
Stevenage Day Centre: provides a safe, welcoming space for adults with higher support needs. It is one of few centres offering full personal care alongside meaningful activities, day trips and social connection. A free Taster Session is available so you and the individual you support can get a feel for the centre before joining.
Funding options: The charity runs a free, dedicated Volunteer service for adults with lower support needs and carers in North Herts and Stevenage can get 12+ hours of free Carers Breaks and tailored advice (Helping You Care scheme).
Crossroads is CQC rated Good (July 2023), reinvests all income into staff training and care quality and is recognised as a Best Companies World Class employer (2025).

Initially I was rather sceptical about having a complete stranger come into my home to sit with my husband who was virtually immobile. However, after the first couple of visits I began to feel really quite comfortable with the situation. My husband had Alzheimer’s so was not able to remember who had come or why or when they came, but he was quite happy to have someone new to talk to, who took an interest in his well being and in what he had to say. So it was a very good working relationship.

Without their help, I could not have continued looking after my wife. The ladies who look after her ensure they do all they can to have the best quality of life she can. They always leave her smiling and that is a god send.

Hi, I'm Jo. I joined Crossroads in 2015 and have worked in several key roles, including Support Worker, Area Manager and Registered Manager. I am qualified at Level 7 in Care Management, strengthening my leadership and sector expertise. In my current position, I oversee quality and compliance across the organisation, ensuring we meet and maintain all CQC regulatory requirements. I also deliver training and am proud to be recognised as an accredited in-house training provider through our local Provider Association.
My journey into the sector began as an unpaid carer, giving me first-hand understanding of the challenges faced by the people we support and their families. This perspective continues to shape my approach and commitment to high-quality care.
As part of the Executive Team, I am involved in strategic planning and decision-making, working closely with our Board of Trustees to support the growth, direction and sustainability of the organisation.

Hello, it's Aimee. I am the HR & Recruitment Manager at Crossroads Caring for Life and am CIPD qualified, with over four years’ experience in HR. I have worked at Crossroads since 2015, progressing through roles including Support Worker, Coordinator and Area Manager, which gives me a strong understanding of both frontline care and people management. I now work alongside Jo and Alison in the Executive Team, overseeing all areas of the charity to continue delivering exceptional care throughout Hertfordshire. I genuinely love my role, the team I work with and the difference our charity makes, and I am incredibly proud that Crossroads was recognised as a World Class Place to Work in the 2025 Best Companies results. We believe that everybody deserves access to the best care possible, and our team strives for excellence every day.

I have worked at Crossroads for almost 10 years and have transitioned from Finance Manager to Financial Controller, and became the Company Secretary in 2023 as well. I have both AAT and CIMA qualifications with over thirty years’ experience in finance roles, working in both commercial and not-for-profit organisations. I am very passionate about the organisation and am proud to see Crossroads listed for the fifth consecutive year in Best Companies with results for 2025 as a World Class Place to work. Working closely with Jo and Aimee as part of the Executive Team, I help to oversee the charity's operations and am passionate about the vital services we provide to the local community.
