My father, who has Parkinson's disease and dementia, receives care from this provider. Over a prolonged period I raised concerns regarding carers not staying for the commissioned duration of visits, incomplete tasks and medication concerns.
Following a lengthy complaints process, the provider upheld or partly upheld the majority of my complaints, including accepting that carers did not always remain for the allocated visit times.
As my father's main carer, I found myself constantly monitoring visits, checking care and repeatedly raising concerns. The complaints process lasted several months and caused significant stress and anxiety for both myself and my father.
Although some failings were acknowledged, I remain disappointed that the financial aspect of the complaint remains unresolved.
Families place enormous trust in care providers, particularly when caring for vulnerable relatives with dementia, and my experience left me feeling that I had to, and continue to, provide ongoing oversight to ensure care was delivered appropriately.
We recognise that aspects of the care provided did not meet the high standards we expect, and we have worked closely with our care professionals and the Local Authority to understand what happened and implement improvements. The financial aspect of the complaint remains under review and is being considered as part of the appeals process.
