My name is Shumana Akhtar, and I am the Care Manager at Home Instead Stoke Newington, Leyton & Wanstead. I have worked in the care industry for over 5 years starting off as a care worker, promoted as Assistant Care Manager and now a Care Manager. I have experience in residential, extra care, and domiciliary care. Whilst working as a Care Worker, I completed my Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Wellbeing, achieving a 2:1.
In my role as the Care Manager, I ensure the client’s needs are person-centred, carry out regular care plan reviews/assessments and ensure clients are satisfied with the high standard of care delivered. I also ensure the team are compliant with CQC requirements and Home Instead Franchise Standards.
To me, working with Home Instead isn’t a job, it is a family. The ethos of the company really caught my attention, somewhere that recognised the value of personalised care and improving quality of life.
It is a rewarding job, my passion for care thrives me to provide personalised care tailored to the client’s needs and deliver a high standard of care with our trained CAREGivers. Putting a smile on someone’s face and a small gesture makes the job even greater.
Outside of work, I like to socialise and spend time with family and friends. I like to go on adventures, the gym, love mini-golf, watch Netflix, spas and going to restaurants.
I have the pleasure of saying that joining this fantastic client-focused business, has been one of the most humbling experiences in my career. As it gives me an opportunity to give back to the community where so many people desperately need my help and personally, brings me back to my roots; being born in the area over forty years ago makes my work so rewarding. Every client is treated like family and given the best care of the highest quality.
I love my job and I love what we do. Not surprised when one of our Care Professionals mentioned to me that doing what we do doesn't feel like 'work'.
I am the support coordinator, my main responsibilities are supporting our care professionals and maintaining contact with client families, as well as general admin duties. I studied healthcare at university and worked in care before this role, which has left me with plenty of experience in healthcare.
The high quality of care that the carers deliver is what attracted me to this role. I am so proud to be part of a team that really cares about others and truly wants to make a difference. Improving the quality of life for others and putting smiles on other people’s faces is something that really resonates with me.
