Independent Living – Caring for You at Home is a small, responsive, and respectful home care provider dedicated to delivering quality, person-centred support. Based in Derby, the team takes great pride in helping people live independently in the comfort of their own homes. Being surrounded by familiar surroundings, continuing with daily routines, and enjoying hobbies and interests all play a vital role in maintaining good mental health and overall wellbeing.

Independent Living understands that quality care takes time. That’s why short 15–30 minute visits are not offered. Instead, every visit lasts a minimum of one hour. This ensures that each individual receives the care and support they truly need. Once essential tasks are complete, Care Givers use the remaining time to provide companionship, conversation, and reassurance. Building meaningful relationships is at the heart of the service, as trust and human connection are just as important as practical care.

The dedicated team is not only experienced and flexible but also genuinely friendly and approachable. Each member of staff is carefully chosen through a thorough recruitment and selection process, giving clients and their loved ones confidence that care is delivered safely and to the highest standard. Support is always respectful, reliable, and tailored to the individual, ensuring every visit has real purpose and value.

With Independent Living, clients and those closest to them can be assured of compassionate, professional support that always places the individual at the centre of everything.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
We have used the service provided by Independent Living for over a year for my dad, who was struggling at home on his own due to poor mobility and deteriorating physical health. The care provided was bespoke and was assessed and evaluated often according to his changing needs. All of the carers (probably
4 or 5) were kind and caring and went above and beyond to help out and make my dad’s life fuller and happier. The care was good value for money too. I totally recommend this company to anyone searching for care for their family member. He has unfortunately had to go into a care home now as he needs 24 hour care but he misses his carers and the companionship provided by his Independent Living ‘family’ .
Reply from Jay Mcnicol, Director at Independent Living Caring For You At HomeHi, thank you so much for your kind words and positive review. It was an absolute pleasure to have provided the care and support required.
I will be sure to pass this on to the team.

The team at Independent Living Caring For You At Home have been amazing for my mum. They have gone above and beyond during their time caring for her. We regularly receive the same small number of carers which makes the world of difference. We recommend them to everyone we know!

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Home Care Provider is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.956 for Independent Living Caring For You At Home is calculated as follows: ( (86 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 90 Ratings = 4.956
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

    The 5 points available are broken down as follows: 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.5 Points for the second and third Positive Reviews, 0.25 Points for each of the next two Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3, 2nd = 0.5, 3rd = 0.5, 4th = 0.25, 5th = 0.25, 6th = 0.05, 7th = 0.05, 8th = 0.05, 9th = 0.05, 10th = 0.05, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025)

    The 5 points relating to the number of Positive Reviews for Independent Living Caring For You At Home is based on 15 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as follows: 3 + 0.5 + 0.5 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4.875
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Home Care Provider does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Care Giver Joined: 2021

Denise has worked in the care sector for over 40 years in varying roles which range from auxiliary nursing, end of life care and residential care. When she is not out in the community visiting her clients, she is happy being around her family, especially her 3 grandchildren, enjoying her holidays and going out for meals.
Denise believes that her role as a care worker is rewarding, knowing that she has made another person feel, clean, comfortable, safe and reassured is what makes the job worthwhile.
We asked Denise what she would change within the care industry if she could? ‘I would get the government to open up colleges purely to show and teach people how to provide care respectfully and properly, we should be recognised as skilled workers’
We also asked Denise, why she liked working for independent Living? ‘Being out in the community gives me independence, but I know I have support if I need it, I see the same Clients on a regular basis and I like that continuity, and so do our clients’
