The Care Quality Commission (CQC) praised Home Instead (York)'s caregivers for paying close attention to the little things that matter most to clients.

The CQC report said: ‘The culture at Home Instead Senior Care is exceptionally open, honest and caring, demonstrating a commitment to putting their clients and staff at the heart of everything they do.’

Inspectors heard these feelings were mutual with friends and family, with one relative commenting: “My mother describes her caregiver as her third daughter. She has taken the time to build an extremely caring relationship with her,” whilst another added: “The caregivers are amazing and go above and beyond, thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Caregivers described how respecting people's privacy and dignity was at the heart of the Home Instead Senior Care York & Malton’s ethos. A member of staff told inspectors: "One person requested support in the bathroom and they were struggling to cope as they were unwell. I said it is fine and we had a chat about the emotional side of what was bothering them. It's very humbling at times."

Similarly, one person who is inclined to doze all day in their chair, revealed: “I probably wouldn't get up if it wasn't for them.”

In its report, the CQC also highlighted how the team is actively involved in dementia and scam awareness training and have provided talks to over 50 local organisations such as community groups, retirement societies and carers groups.

Owners Luke Norbury and Ann-Marie Roche set the company up to provide care for older people to enable them to continue living independently in their own homes across York and surrounding areas.

The provider, which currently has a review score of 9.8 on homecare.co.uk, was awarded an ‘outstanding’ rating on 2 November.

Mr Norbury, co-owner of Home Instead York, said: “We are delighted and immensely proud to receive an outstanding rating. Our caregivers are genuinely compassionate people who love what they do. We have a great team who work closely together. We want the best, not only for our clients but also for our wonderful caregivers who we value so highly.”

Home Instead Senior Care York & Malton matches caregivers to clients based on shared interests, hobbies and personalities, with care visits lasting for a minimum of an hour.
